Serena recited the law. I’m defending myself. All I need is to stab the assailant’s arm. Stabbing him too many times will be counted as excessive defense. I need to stab the right spot.
As she held her breath, bracing herself for an attack, she heard a thud and a scream of pain as someone crashed to the ground.
What the hell?
Rushed footsteps stopped outside her partition. “It’s me, Sebastian. Open the door. I’ll get you out of here.”
She lowered her guard. Her dagger clattered to the floor.
She opened the door with flushed cheeks. “It’s really you, Sebastian. You come for me.”
His chest tightened at her look. “What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
He put the back of his hand on her forehead. Sweat dampened his palm. “Are you having a fever?”
She shook her head, her breath quickened. “Take me to the hospital. I think I’m drugged.”
His breath hitched, and his expression darkened.
He scooped her up in his arms. “You’re safe now. I’ve got you. I’ll bring you to the honital.”
She had lost count of how many times he had shown up right when she needed h.
most.
She was losing consciousness. She felt like her body was on fire; arousal gnawed at her. She tugged at anything within reach.
A warm hand wrapped her small hand in his. His palm brushed against her delicate knuckle as
gave her fingers a little squeeze. “Serena.”

Humming absentmindedly, she frowned at the closeness. “Let go. It’s unpleasant!”
His voice was hoarse and low. Hot breath brushed her car. “It’ll be better soon. Be patient. We are going to the hospital, and you’ll be fine.”
She untangled herself from his arm and got up. Her porcelain face stopped right before him. “Uncle Sebastian?”

He steadied her in his arms so she wouldn’t fall. “Why, Rena? Why don’t you see me as an older brother?”
Struggling to see him clearly, she jabbed a finger in his face. “You’re taking advantage of me. I hate that! I hate that ‘I only see her as a little sister‘ excuse! Then, how do you explain that he flirts with his stepsister?”
I see. He cleared his throat, not arguing it. “Okay. If that’s how you feel, I won’t push it.”
Serena continued to wriggle in his arms, but his hand always kept her steady.
She suddenly pouted, and tears rolled down her cheeks; her emotions spilled over. “I’m sorry, Grandma. I didn’t get the bracelet.”
She bit back her cry, so he could only hear her words between sobs. “Grandma, you’ll understand, right?”
Sebastian wiped away her tears with his thumb. He retrieved a small bag, took out a bracelet, and slipped it onto her wrist. “Don’t cry, little bunny. I bought the bracelet for you.”
