Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 142

Moreover, she and Julian were currently separated and in the middle of a messy divorce. Having Caden stay with her in this ambiguous situation wasn't good for either of them.

Having made up her mind, Hester asked Gael to relay her thoughts directly to Julian.

Gael naturally passed the message along perfectly.

However, Hester had underestimated Julian once again.

The next morning, Hester was just having breakfast with Caden when the doorbell rang.

"I'll go see who it is," Lena said, turning and heading for the front door.

The door opened, and Lena's voice drifted into the dining room. "Sir, you're here so early... and who is this?"

"This is my sister-in-law, Seraphina," Julian's deep voice carried a commanding, undeniable authority. "She is my older brother's lawfully wedded wife. From now on, you will address her as Mrs. Seraphina."

Lena quickly greeted her, "Oh, I see. My apologies, Mrs. Seraphina, for my lack of manners."

Hester paused in the middle of peeling a hard-boiled egg for Caden.

She lifted her gaze toward the entryway.

Lena was respectfully ushering Julian and Seraphina inside.

Julian was dressed in a sleek black suit, exuding a cold, aristocratic aura. Beside him stood Seraphina in an elegant apricot-colored dress. She was slender and tall, with waist-length hair cascading down her back.

She had a luminous, porcelain complexion, and her features were gentle and stunningly beautiful. Her almond eyes glistened with unshed tears as she stared fixedly at Caden, who was sitting obediently at the dining table.

"Is that Caden?" She turned her head, tilting her chin up slightly as she looked at Julian with tear-filled eyes. "Julian, is that my and Adrian's child?"

She asked the question so tentatively, her voice breaking with fragile, heart-wrenching sobs.

Julian's expression softened as he gently comforted her. "Don't rush, Seraphina. Caden is still eating. Let's wait a moment."

Only when Caden had drained the last drop of his milk did she look at the boy, her expression turning incredibly serious. "Caden, there is something I haven't been entirely truthful with you about."

Caden paused in the middle of wiping his mouth with a napkin. He stared blankly at Hester, a flicker of anxiety appearing in those eyes that looked so remarkably like Julian's.

"Mommy, what are you saying? Caden doesn't understand..."

Hester pursed her lips.

She hadn't wanted to be this blunt, fearing Caden wouldn't be able to process it all at once.

But Julian and Seraphina—his biological uncle and mother—clearly didn't care enough to be considerate. So why should she make things endlessly difficult for herself?

Since they had literally shown up at her door to claim the child, she might as well rip the band-aid off.

Taking a deep breath, Hester steeled her heart and spoke. "Your memories got all mixed up after you got hurt. The truth is, I am not your mommy."
