Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 144

It was likely the thought of Caden that gave Seraphina the strength to endure those grueling five years of treatment.

As a fellow woman and an expecting mother, Hester firmly believed that correcting Caden's understanding right now was the right thing to do. It was best for her, best for Seraphina, and ultimately best for Caden.

Driven by this logic, Hester ruthlessly stepped into the role of the bad guy.

She looked down at the sobbing Caden, her face a mask of strict seriousness. "Caden, I am going to tell you this one last time. I am not your mommy. Your mommy's name is Seraphina, and she is waiting in the living room right now to take you home."

"No, I don't want to!" Caden wailed at the top of his lungs. "I only want you to be my mommy! You're the only mommy I know..."

"You're confused," Hester replied, keeping her voice completely steady. "You only think I'm your mommy because you bumped your head."

"You're lying!" Caden suddenly scowled, pointing an accusing finger at Julian. "My daddy told me you two are married! You are my daddy's wife, which means you are my mommy!"

Hester's brow twitched as she stared at Caden, momentarily at a loss for words.

This entirely convoluted mess of a relationship was entirely Julian's fault!

She shot Julian an icy glare. "Look at the mess you've made."

Julian met her gaze evenly. "I just wanted to bring Seraphina over so Caden could get familiar with her first. You were the one who obstinately decided to drop this on him without even asking me."

"Oh, so you consulted me before bringing a stranger into my home?"

Hester let out a bitter, mocking laugh. "Julian, let me make this crystal clear for you again: we are currently separated and in the middle of getting a divorce. This house is solely in my name, purchased before our marriage. It is not marital property; it belongs entirely to me. If it wasn't for the fact that Caden is here, do you really think I would have even let you through the door?"

Julian's voice turned frosty. "Seraphina was desperate to see her son. I tried to contact you, and I had Gael communicate with you."

"And did Gael fail to relay my answer to you?"

Julian pressed his lips together, remaining silent.

Obviously, Gael had relayed her message perfectly.
