Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 149

Hester furrowed her brows in annoyance.

She had made herself abundantly clear yesterday, yet Seraphina was still acting as though she hadn't understood a single word.

She was either genuinely stupid or playing dumb.

But could someone who got into Northwood University's College of Fine Arts really be that stupid?

"Excuse me, I'm in a hurry," Hester said coldly, immediately stepping around Seraphina and continuing down the hall.

To her shock, Seraphina turned around and actually followed her.

"Hester, which doctor did you book?"

Suppressing her irritation, Hester gave a flat reply. "Dr. Crane."

"What a coincidence, me too!" Seraphina began chattering away endlessly. "After I had Caden, I developed adenomyosis. While I was abroad getting treated for depression, I took a lot of medication, and it made the adenomyosis much worse over the last couple of years. Julian told me Dr. Crane is a top expert in this field, so he specifically booked her for me today."

Hester merely gave a cold smirk at Seraphina's unsolicited life story, not bothering to engage.

Seeing that Hester remained stony-faced and refused to respond, Seraphina frowned slightly. She lowered her voice, adopting a cautious, wounded tone. "Hester, do you... not like me?"

They had just arrived outside Dr. Crane's office.

Hester stopped walking, took a deep breath, and turned to face Seraphina with a perfectly blank expression.

"Ms. Simpson, I was very clear yesterday." Her voice was icy. "I despise pointless socializing, and my temper isn't great. Sometimes the things I say are quite harsh. Since you have a history of severe depression, I strongly advise you to stay away from me. It's for your own good, and mine."

The delicate expression on Seraphina's face slowly froze.

She stared at Hester, her features contorting into a mask of weak fragility, her eyes swimming with deep hurt.

Hester withdrew her gaze, turned around, and walked straight to the triage desk outside the office, handing over her card. "Hi, I'm here for my scheduled 12-week prenatal checkup with Dr. Crane this morning..."

Seraphina stood rooted to the spot, watching Hester interact with the nurse.

The woman had exquisite, cold features. Even though she was polite and low-key, every movement she made effortlessly exuded the commanding aura of a wealthy heiress.
