Last night, Gigi had thrown a tiny tantrum, insisting on sleeping in Hester’s room. Worried that his daughter might disrupt Hester’s rest, Jasper had tried to coax her back, but Hester had waved him off, assuring him it was fine.
Ultimately, Gigi had gotten her way.
When Jasper woke up the next morning and went downstairs, Hester and Gigi were still sound asleep.
Taking advantage of the quiet, he walked to the local market, bought fresh groceries, and commandeered the inn’s kitchen to whip up breakfast.
At 8:30 AM, Jett’s alarm went off.
After freshening up, Jett headed downstairs and immediately noticed his cousin hard at work. Not wanting to be outdone, Jett threw on an apron and inserted himself as the sous-chef.
Both men knew exactly what game they were playing, and neither was willing to back down.
When Ms. Crane walked into her own kitchen, she was met with the bizarre sight of two ridiculously handsome men fiercely competing over a hot stove.
She leaned against the front desk, raising an eyebrow at one of her staff. “What’s happening in there?”
The employee shrugged, suppressing a smile. “I guess they’re just really passionate about culinary arts?”
“Right,” Ms. Crane chuckled dryly. “Well, whoever ends up marrying those two is hitting the jackpot.”
...
By nine o'clock, breakfast was officially served.
Because neither of them was entirely sure what Hester preferred, they had essentially cooked everything they knew how to make.
Freshly pressed soy milk, a comforting light soup, delicate shrimp ravioli, soft-boiled eggs, some light vegetable stir-fries, and the crispy dough fritters and scallion pancakes Jasper had picked up from the market.
When the massive spread was laid out on the dining table, Ms. Crane and her staff could only stare in awe.
“Is being the perfect house-husband a genetic trait in your family?” Ms. Crane asked, gesturing at the feast before looking between the cousins. “I’m a happily single woman, and even I’m tempted. Are either of you on the market? Because if you’re single, I might need to make an offer.”
Jasper cleared his throat.
Jett suddenly found the floor incredibly interesting.
The staff tried to stifle their giggles. They knew their boss was just teasing, but seeing two confident, attractive men suddenly blush furiously was too good to miss.
