The moment Hester got into the car, she handed Gael the handful of hairs she had plucked from Caden's head, complete with the follicles.
"Find a reliable DNA lab and take this in personally."
"Don't worry, this kind of covert op is right in my wheelhouse!" Gael whipped out an evidence bag and carefully sealed the hair strands inside.
"Let's head to Silverstream Villa right now."
"Girl, do you need to look in a mirror? You look like an absolute ghost right now. No, scratch that, you look paler than a ghost! Let's hit Silverstream Villa another day, okay?"
"Julian is going to find out I was at the academy today almost immediately. And he will easily guess exactly why I came here. We have to secure hard evidence that he's been living with Melody before he catches wind of this."
Gael clicked her tongue, thoroughly impressed. "Wow, nothing like an old married couple. You guys really know each other inside and out!"
"We do," Hester mocked bitterly. "And because we know each other so intimately, his betrayal is entirely unforgivable!"
...
An ultra-luxurious private estate like Silverstream Villa wasn't exactly a place you could just waltz into.
But that was barely a hurdle for Gael.
Half an hour later, dressed flawlessly as a corporate employee with a shiny 'YAH Jewelry' secretary badge pinned to her chest, Gael successfully bluffed her way through the front doors.
About ten minutes later, Gael walked out of the villa.
The villa's nanny personally escorted her to the door. She watched Gael get into the car and drive away before finally turning back inside.
The moment the heavy front door clicked shut, the nanny whipped out her phone and dialed Melody Monroe. "Ms. Monroe, you were absolutely right. Someone really did come sniffing around. I arranged the master bedroom exactly as you instructed... Yes, I fed her all the lines you gave me..."
Hester kept her gaze fixed on the passing scenery. She couldn't actually see any of the city flying by; all she could see was Caden's sweet, innocent little face floating in her mind's eye.
"Gael, do you know what? Director Warren told me Julian claimed that boy was legally adopted by both of us."
"He said what?!" Gael's voice spiked an octave. "What a load of absolute garbage! How could he even pull that off?!"
"He didn't just betray me; he played me from every single angle. To the outside world, Caden is the child Julian and I adopted together as a married couple. He isn't some dirty little secret. He can strut into any high-society event completely out in the open as the legitimate heir to the Weston family!"
"Holy shit! I can't even... I'm about to lose my goddamn mind! Hold on, I need to pull over..." Gael checked her rearview mirror, jerked the steering wheel, and slammed on the brakes.
The white Panamera jerked to a halt on the shoulder of the road.
Gael threw on her hazard lights and whipped around to face Hester. "What the hell is Julian's game here? He refuses to divorce you, but he's simultaneously scheming to legally crown his bastard son as the legitimate heir to Weston Corp?!"
