Hester didn't even want to waste the breath to acknowledge this pathetic father-son duo. She turned her back to them and stepped up to Gigi, gently stroking the little girl's hair. "Don't be mad, sweetie. That boy is just talking nonsense."
Gigi pouted her lips and reached her little arms out toward Hester. "Mama, hold me~"
Hester smiled warmly and reached over to take Gigi into her arms.
"You really shouldn't indulge her this much," Jasper said, his tone fond but exasperated.
Conscious of Julian's piercing glare, he held his tongue on the rest, though Hester completely understood his silent warning. She simply smiled and replied, "It's fine. Our Gigi deserves to be totally spoiled."
Two adults and one beautiful child—the picture they painted was breathtakingly warm, like a perfect, loving family.
Julian stood completely frozen, watching their interaction with a terrifyingly blank expression. His eyes were bottomless pits of suppressed rage, and the oppressive aura radiating off him was downright suffocating.
Behind the desk, the receptionist's eyes were darting back and forth so fast she looked dizzy. This was way too much tea for her to process all at once!
Right at that moment, Melody emerged from the doctor's office, clutching a prescription slip. "Julian, Dr. Coleman wrote the script."
Julian didn't look at her, his voice devoid of emotion. "I'll take Caden to the car. Go get the medication and meet us."
"Okay," Melody replied in her sickeningly sweet tone.
Julian grabbed Caden's hand and marched straight toward the exit. As he brushed past Hester, he dropped a single, icy command. "I expect you back at Stellamare Villa tonight."
Hester completely ignored him. She had absolutely zero intention of going back.
Once Julian and Caden were out the door, Melody sauntered over to the reception desk. She slapped the prescription down in front of the receptionist, then spun around and marched right up to Hester.
Hester knew exactly how vile the trash pouring out of Melody's mouth could be. Not wanting Gigi's innocent ears exposed to such toxicity, she turned to Jasper. "Take Gigi inside to see the doctor first."
Melody clutched her stinging cheek, her eyes boiling over with rabid hatred. Suddenly, a sickeningly calculating gleam flashed in her eyes.
"Hester!" She spun around, lunged forward, and grabbed Hester's arm tight.
Hester frowned in disgust. Just as she was about to rip her arm away, Melody leaned in close, dropping her voice into a chilling, venomous whisper right beside Hester's ear.
"Five years ago, when the kidnappers called Julian... he was sleeping right next to me."
Hester's struggle instantly ceased. She stared dead at Melody, her hands clenching into painfully tight fists.
Melody released her grip and took a dramatic step back. She looked Hester up and down, a profoundly wicked, triumphant smirk twisting her lips.
"He was so exhausted, and he was sleeping so deeply... I just couldn't bear to wake him! My, oh my. Do you think, if Julian had answered that phone call just a little bit sooner, maybe your precious babies wouldn't have died?"
