Declan paused and cast a sweeping glance over the first floor. Lena had already walked away to attend to her duties.
Pulling his gaze back, Declan grabbed Sabrina by the arm and practically dragged her up to the second floor.
"Hey, hey, slow down! For every step your giant legs take, I have to take three!"
Hearing her complain, Declan slowed his pace but didn't let go. He didn't release her until he had pulled her into a secluded corner on the second floor.
"Mr. Weston’s injury is strictly confidential. No one can know, especially Hester." Declan’s expression was dead serious.
Sabrina, sharp as ever, instantly sensed there was more to the story. She frowned, glaring at him. "Why can't Hester know?"
"Just promise me you won't say anything."
"No!" Sabrina protested. "You won't tell me anything, yet you expect me to team up with you guys to lie to Hester? She trusts me! Right now, they’re in the middle of a messy divorce. If I blindly take his side, what kind of friend does that make me?"
"Keeping this from Hester is for her own good."
"Give me a break!" Sabrina rolled her eyes. "They're husband and wife. What could possibly be so bad that they can't face it together?"
Declan dragged a hand through his hair in frustration. "This is my fault. I shouldn't have let it slip."
"Would it kill you to just tell me?!" Sabrina smacked him hard on the arm. "You never treat me like a real friend!"
Knowing he couldn't out-stubborn her, Declan threw his hands up. "If you're so curious, come with me right now and ask him yourself."
Sabrina completely froze.
Declan started walking toward the master bedroom. After a few steps, he stopped, turned back to look at Sabrina still rooted to the spot, and raised an eyebrow. "What are you waiting for? Come on!"
Sabrina swallowed hard. You couldn't pay her enough money to interrogate Julian right now!
"Declan Reed, you're the worst!" Sabrina was intimidated, but frustrated that she was missing out on the tea. She huffed angrily, "You don't treat me like one of the guys at all!"
