“You’re not a kid anymore. You should be responsible for what you do.”
“And honestly, I’m done with your immature attitude. I’m marrying Garrison because he’s worth it.”
“What right do you have to take it out on him? What gives you the right?”
Claire’s words hit me hard. I couldn’t find anything to say, but the pain stung even more.
I squeezed my fists and forced out a bitter smile.
“Alright. Fine. From now on, whatever you do, it’s got nothing to do with me. Whoever you marry, it has nothing to do with me either.”
“I’ll apologize, but not because I pushed him. I’m only doing this for my foster mother.”
I turned away and went to the emergency room bed nearby. Garrison was already cleaned up, his wounds treated.
If he hadn’t grabbed the edge of the table, he wouldn’t have hit it, and the glasses wouldn’t have shattered on him. Most importantly, he made sure to protect himself from any real harm. Compared to him, my injuries were worse.
Yet all the attention and sympathy went to him.
I couldn’t help but feel jealous.
He saw me and his face lit up with a sly grin. He lowered his voice. “Well? Not bad, right? My acting was pretty solid.”
Looking at his shameless smirk, I had to bite back my anger. My smile was tight, nothing genuine about it.
“Yeah, perfect performance. Congrats, you pulled it off again.”
“But honestly, how long do you think a relationship built on lies like this will last?”
Garrison paused for a second, then that wicked smile crept back.
“So what? At least I have her now. What do you have?”
