Chapter 266 Three Beds in One Room
“Let’s go walk it off.”
After wrapping up all their business, Riley stood up and stretched lazily.
“Wanna head over to Pineapple’s place next?”
“Sure.” PineappleBeer didn’t care either way. “Don’t get your hopes up though. There’s nothing special about my camp.”
They stepped onto the teleport array once more, feeling that familiar weightless tug in their stomachs.
A few seconds later, their vision cleared, and a sharp icy wind slammed straight into their faces.
PineappleBeer’s camp sat in the middle of a barren rocky wasteland.
There was nothing to block the wind. Bare jagged rocks littered the ground, scarred and eroded by endless snowstorms. Dense spike traps and hunting clamps surrounded the entire perimeter.
Other than a watchtower and the main cabin, there were no extra buildings at all.
When they stepped inside the main house, the furnishings were shockingly plain.
Besides a carpet and a few weapon racks, the only proper furniture was the same sofa set Riley owned–TartKing had given one set to each of them a while back.
To the left of the living room was a workshop piled high with metal scraps and unfinished traps. The right side held her bedroom
and bathroom.
‘Back when I was alone, I did all my crafting and cooking by the campfire in the middle of the base.” Pineapple Beer shrugged casually. “I’ve never cared much about my living conditions. I just needed a place to block the wind. After Tart started feeding me, stopped cooking entirely. That fire’s only for warmth and light now.”
‘This is way too rough…” TartKing stared at the barren home, feeling bad for her friend.
‘Haha, it wasn’t that bad. I only cared about getting stronger back then. I didn’t bother with decorations.”
With that, PineappleBeer led the two toward her bedroom.
‘My bedroom’s a little different though. Sleep’s the one thing I never skip out on.”
She pushed open the bedroom door.
Both Riley and TartKing froze the second they stepped inside.
This bedroom was undeniably strange.
First came the curtains.
Thick layers of black animal hide had been stitched together, covering every window completely. Even in broad daylight, the room turned pitch black once the curtains were drawn.

Then there were the beds.
The small room held three separate beds.
Hanging from the ceiling beam in the corner was a hammock, swaying gently in the faint breeze.
In the center sat a soft mattress layered with thick down padding, looking incredibly cozy.
Against the window was a plain wooden plank bed.
“What’s with all the beds?” TartKing blurted out. “Do you have some kind of clone skill?”
PineappleBeer fell quiet for a moment. She walked over to the window and brushed her fingers across the thick black curtain.
Her voice dropped, heavy with exhaustion.
“It’s for sleeping.
“The early days after my rebirth were really tough.”
She leaned against the windowsill, her gaze distant and unfocused.
“I carry two sets of memories. One is my past life–scrambling to survive in those cold, hopeless dungeons before dying a brutal death. The other is my current life, starting out fresh in this snowfield.
“Those two memories constantly clash in my head. Daytime’s manageable, but at night… once it goes quiet, all I hear are monster roars and my own dying screams from my past life.
“I could never tell if what I saw was real or just a dream.”
She nodded toward the hammock.
“Sometimes I felt like I was drifting on a boat. The swaying motion made me feel grounded, so I slept in the hammock.”
She then gestured at the hard wooden bed.
“Other nights, it felt like I was still lying on that freezing dungeon stone floor. Soft beds gave me nightmares–I thought they were some kind of trap. The sharp pain from the hard wood kept me awake and sane.
“I only dared sleep on the soft mattress when I was completely worn out and mentally drained.”
She let out a bitter self–deprecating laugh.

“Sounds pretty messed up, right? I got a second chance at life, yet I’m still haunted by my past. These three beds are basically my sleeping pills. Switching sleeping spots helps me fall asleep.”
A heavy silence fell over the room.
