Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 399

Cynthia had always been painfully self-aware. She knew the unspoken rules of their world—the deep-rooted obsession with marrying into the right family.

She refused to follow in her mother's footsteps.

And she would never let herself fall into a relationship where she wasn't an equal.

Just then, the smoky aroma of barbecue from a roadside stand drifted through the open window, capturing her attention. Her stomach chose that exact moment to rumble loudly.

"Nick, can we just grab a bite here?"

She seized the opportunity to change the subject, pointing to the food stand outside.

Dominic’s gaze darkened as he looked at her, but he eventually pulled the car over to the side of the road.

Cynthia bit her lip, recognizing the silent surrender in his deep, dark eyes.

She looked away. As soon as Dominic parked the car, she reached for the door handle to get out.

But just as she was about to step out, Dominic reached over and grabbed her arm.

Cynthia looked back, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.

Dominic's gaze drifted down to her feet.

"Are you sure you want to get out like that?"

She glanced down and almost groaned. She’d completely forgotten that her high-heeled mule was still ridiculously stuck around her ankle.

If she got out now, she’d be putting her embarrassing predicament on full display. She could only imagine the looks and laughter she'd get.

But she was so hungry.

Dominic saw the desperate craving for food in her eyes. With a quiet sigh, he pushed open his door and got out.

"What do you want?"

Her eyes lit up instantly, and she rattled off her order. "I want the beef kebabs, the…"

She listed off several more items without taking a breath.

Dominic watched as her eyes grew brighter and brighter, a hint of indulgence hidden in his own.

"How many?"

Cynthia held up five fingers.
