Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 395

Cynthia looked into Dominic's cold, dark eyes and felt a strange certainty that if she dared to say 'no,' he might just strangle her on the spot.

She pressed her lips together, her only goal being to retrieve her shoes and key from his grasp. But he held the shoelaces tightly, showing no intention of letting go. She looked up at him and found him watching her with unnerving patience, clearly waiting for an answer.

Cynthia forced another smile. "Of course, I would have. Who else would I call?"

As she spoke, she gave her shoes a gentle tug, and this time, Dominic relented, handing them over. She took the shoes, but when she reached for the key, Dominic raised his hand high above her head.

He was already much taller than her, and with his arm extended, the key was completely out of her reach. He looked down at her, an eyebrow cocked and the faintest hint of a challenging smirk on his lips.

Cynthia took a deep breath, crouched slightly, and leaped, trying to snatch the key. She'd completely forgotten she was wearing slippers. As she landed, her foot slipped, and her entire leg slid through the top strap, leaving the slipper dangling ridiculously around her ankle.

Dominic's arm shot out, his hand wrapping around her waist to steady her before she could fall. A low chuckle escaped him. "A rabbit could jump higher than that."

Cynthia's face burned with humiliation. As Dominic, seeing her awkward expression, began to look down at her feet, she reacted instantly. He was worried she might have scraped herself on the gravel, but she couldn't bear for him to see her in such a ridiculous state.
