The old lady scoffed. "I didn't realize you were so protective of her. Are you afraid I might eat her alive?"
"You know I'm not a patient person," Terence said flatly. "If you want a real explanation, are you sure you want to waste time debating this point?"
The old lady turned to Natalie. "Since he can't bear for me to speak harshly to you, you may leave."
"Madam, I'll take my leave then. Please don't be angry."
Natalie bowed slightly again and excused herself.
Her speech and demeanor all had the grace of a lady from a noble family.
"She is quite beautiful, speaks eloquently, and knows her etiquette," the Old Madam mused aloud. "She doesn't seem like she comes from a humble background."
If it weren't for the fact that Natalie came from a poor background and was divorced, the Old Madam would have quite liked her.
She had met many girls from high society. They all seemed polite, but it was a trained, deliberate politeness, as if they had all been taught by the same mediocre teacher.
None of them had Natalie's classical grace, the kind you would expect from the high-born daughter of a great ancient house.
"The person we chose would naturally be exceptional," Terence said.
"A pity the truth is she comes from the countryside, has a gambling-addicted father, and is a divorcée with a child."
"You said the two children need a mother. I found them one. The one they like the most is the best one. Nothing else matters."
"I told you to find them a mother, not someone who is *already* a mother. She has her own child; how can she genuinely care for our two?"
"Whether she can be genuine with them depends on their own actions. But from what I can see, there's no need to worry. The two of them are fighting over her."
"Fighting over her? The children are immature, but are you as well?"
"Then what is your point?"
"You're kicking Natalie out. Lucas and Liana are bound to throw a tantrum. I'm a single father; I'm not good at comforting them. Whoever makes them cry can comfort them."
"What?"
Just then, Lucas and Liana burst in, crying.
It turned out they had been afraid Natalie would be mistreated, so they had secretly followed and hidden nearby.
When they heard their great-grandmother was going to kick Natalie out, they charged in.
No one expected the two children to rush in, wailing loudly.
"Great-grandma, please, don't send Natalie away! Please!"
The normally adorable children were now crying so hard it was heartbreaking to watch.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
