“Lucas, Liana, please stop crying. You’re breaking my heart.”
Old Mrs. Lockwood adored Lucas and Liana and couldn’t bear to see them cry.
“Great-Grandma, my sister and I can’t live without Natalie. Please, don’t send her away.”
The two great-grandchildren were wailing, and the sound was both heartbreaking and a full-blown assault on Old Mrs. Lockwood’s eardrums.
Terence had already covered his ears, knowing full well they would put on a dramatic performance.
“Darlings, stop crying. Great-Grandma will find someone else to look after you, someone even better than that woman.”
“Great-Grandma, we don’t want anyone else! We only want Natalie! And we don’t need anyone to take care of us. We’re big now. We can take care of Natalie.”
Old Mrs. Lockwood was stunned. She had assumed the children were inseparable from Natalie because she took such good care of them, but it turned out they felt they needed to take care of her.
“Stop your crying. Is it really that woman you can’t bear to part with?”
“No, it’s you we can’t bear to part with, Great-Grandma.”
Old Mrs. Lockwood was confused. Her?
“If Great-Grandma sends Natalie away, Natalie will have to leave. And we’ll go with her, which means we won’t get to see you very often. It makes us so sad.”
The two children exchanged a look and began to cry even louder.
The old matriarch was baffled. This… this…
They couldn’t bear to part with her?
And yet, in their hearts, Natalie was clearly more important.
Old Mrs. Lockwood felt a complicated mix of emotions.
Was it because she was genuinely good to them, or because she was exceptionally manipulative? She decided she would have to keep a very close eye on that woman to ensure she didn’t harm a single member of the Lockwood family.
Terence watched his son and daughter, impressed by their quick thinking. They were much better at expressing their feelings now, unlike before, when they would just throw tantrums.
Since meeting Natalie, Lucas’s temper had become much more controlled. He was like a little hellion that only Natalie could tame.
…
As Natalie was leaving Old Mrs. Lockwood's residence, she encountered an elegantly dressed woman dripping with jewels in the hallway. When they met, Natalie politely stepped aside.
The woman sized Natalie up. “You must be Natalie. Have you already met with the matriarch?”
Natalie looked up at her. “Yes, I have. And you are?”
The woman smiled, a picture of aristocratic grace.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
