"I was too harsh earlier. It must have been a lot of work for Natalie to make all this."
"You're her sister-in-law. Scolding her a bit is nothing. The fact that you're willing to eat her food is a gift to her."
Marie smirked, then suddenly frowned. "These dishes are all well-made, but this shrimp... it was brought out before we even sat down. It must be cold by now, and the shrimp will be tough."
At this, Victoria bellowed, "Natalie, get over here!"
Just then, Natalie walked in with her son, Hanley. Hanley immediately scurried over to sit next to Marie.
Victoria glared at Natalie. "Have you forgotten the rules of this house? Shrimp dishes are to be served only after we are seated. We weren't even at the table yet, and you brought this out. Is this edible?"
Victoria believed that dishes like shrimp had to be served last and eaten piping hot.
Because of this rule, they never waited for Natalie to join them. By the time she finished serving all the dishes, the meal was already half-eaten.
For five years at the Cross estate, she had eaten nothing but leftovers.
With a cool expression, Natalie walked over, picked up the plate of shrimp, and, right in front of Victoria, dumped the entire contents into the trash can. As the food hit the bin, Victoria's face turned beet red.
"Natalie, what do you think you're doing?"
Darren grabbed Natalie's wrist, his eyes cold and sharp.
Her audacity was growing.
Natalie remained perfectly calm. "Mother said the dish was inedible, so I'm throwing it out to make a new one."
