At Victoria's shouts, passersby stopped in their tracks, and a crowd began to form.
Natalie didn't want to become the subject of public gossip. She tried to leave, but Victoria clung to her, wailing dramatically.
"She lived in our home for five years! We treated her so well, providing for her every need. But now she's cheated on my son, and that's not even the worst of it. She took the prescription for the traditional medicine I rely on. She's trying to kill me! I feel so weak, so faint."
As she spoke, Victoria gasped for air, putting on a show of nearly collapsing.
The onlookers were filled with righteous indignation. This woman had not only cheated on her husband but was now trying to harm her mother-in-law. It was despicable.
"She had an affair and now she's trying to hurt her former mother-in-law. That's horrible!"
"She has that vixen look about her. I knew she was trouble."
"Ma'am, please don't get too worked up. You'll make yourself sick."
"That woman is so heartless. Her mother-in-law is about to collapse, and she's just standing there without a care. Why hasn't she apologized and taken her home?"
Facing the accusations, Natalie said coldly, "I have nothing to apologize for. My ex-husband and I are divorced. And I didn't cheat. In fact, her son was the one who—"
Before Natalie could reveal Darren's affair, Victoria threw herself at her, resorting to her usual theatrics—crying, screaming, and making a scene.
"You wicked woman! You were the one who had an affair, and now you're trying to slander my son! To please your lover's child, you gave away your own son's spot at the school. You don't deserve to be a mother!"
"This woman gave up her own child's future to curry favor with someone else's kid? She's not fit to be a mother."
Natalie realized that explaining the situation to this mob was pointless. Besides, she didn't owe them an explanation.
