“Well, that’s because you’re not charming enough,” Old Mr. Fairchild said, suddenly looking at Nicholas with disdain. “Always riding that piece of junk motorcycle. You look like some punk kid on a bike, thinking you’re so cool. But in the end, Natalie doesn’t even want to go on a date with you.”
“What do you mean, a piece of junk? My Tempest is worth ten million dollars! And I’m a world champion, not some punk kid.”
Nicholas had never thought about getting married. He didn’t want anyone tying him down. But the cold indifference in Natalie’s eyes made him feel antsy, like a cat was scratching at his heart.
“Mr. Fairchild, please have a seat. Let me check your pulse and see if you’ve been taking your medicine and resting well while I’ve been away.”
Natalie spoke gently, her voice as calm as still water. She seemed completely unbothered by Old Mr. Fairchild’s matchmaking attempts, focused only on the task at hand.
Old Mr. Fairchild sat down, and Natalie took his pulse.
She was serene and graceful. The breeze lifted the hair from her forehead, and the pin in her hair swayed, giving her a timeless elegance.
In this chaotic world, it was rare to see someone so refreshingly pure, like a noble lady from a bygone era who had traveled through time.
“Mr. Fairchild, your pulse is steady. You’ve been taking your medicine on time. I won’t prescribe any more for now. Instead, I’ll write out a few recipes for some medicinal meals to help you recuperate further.”
Natalie went on to check the pulses of the other elderly residents in the nursing home. She was gentle, meticulous, and incredibly patient.
Nicholas stood to the side, watching. This group of old-timers included the former head of Aurelis’s largest intelligence network, the emperor of the Dark Empire, and titans of business and politics.
And now, they were all behaving like docile seniors lining up for discount eggs at the supermarket.
Was this a joke? How did this woman have them so completely charmed?
And the crucial part was, she seemed to have no idea who they really were, treating them like any other group of elderly people.
“Everyone,” Natalie said to them, “I’m so happy to see you all getting healthier by the day. It’s getting late, so I have to get back to work now.”
“Natalie, you’ve been through so much recently. You need some money on hand. Here, take this card. It has ten…”
