Edgar’s face was grim. Grace leaned down toward Terence. “My dear boy, even if your legs are injured, even if you can never stand again and have to spend your life in a wheelchair, it doesn’t matter. A lump formed in Terence’s throat. Even though his grandmother was confused, her love and affection for him were as clear as ever.

Grace smiled lovingly. “Where is my son, Aaron? I want to see my son. He was such a clever boy. He must have grown up to be very handsome. His own son is so good-looking, so my son must be wonderful. Where is he? Let me see him.”

Grace’s words made Mrs. Lockwood’s heart ache. She quickly went to her and took her hand. “Mom, your son is away on a business trip. He’s not at home.”

“My son must be very handsome to have found such a beautiful wife.”
