"Have you two said enough? How could Natalie possibly be involved with Old Mr. Fairchild? And aren't you responsible for any of this?"

Darren shot Victoria a cold glare that made her flinch.

"What are you talking about? What does this have to do with me?"

Victoria feigned innocence, but Darren was too exhausted to argue with her. He was already at his wit's end.

Victoria stepped aside as her phone rang. It was one of her many relatives.

She felt a wave of despair. Since Natalie had exposed Darren and Marie's affair, every friend, relative, and distant acquaintance had been calling to ask if the story about her younger son and his sister-in-law was true. They asked if she had intended for him to carry on both family lines, and if the younger wife's refusal had led to this ugly public feud. She had been utterly humiliated.

Victoria angrily switched her phone off.

Listening to Victoria, Marie's expression soured. Her phone had been ringing off the hook too, with everyone asking if she was really having an affair with Darren. It was driving her insane.

"It's all that bitch Natalie's fault! She's brought shame upon the Cross family! If I ever see her again, I'll skin her alive."

Darren's patience finally snapped. "Mom, can you just stop for a second! Do you have any idea how bad things are for the company right now? Countless clients are canceling their contracts because of this. Can you please not make things worse?"

The press conference hadn't just caused the Cross Group's stock to plummet; a flood of clients were pulling out. The company was now facing a fight for its very survival.

Victoria asked worriedly, "Will the Cross Group go bankrupt?"

"If Old Mr. Fairchild demands compensation, then yes, the Cross Group will go under."

As Darren said this, a thought struck him. Was it all a coincidence?
