Marie's eyes lit up. She had assumed the Lockwood family would immediately cancel the meeting after the news broke, but to her surprise, they hadn't.
"It seems Terence is genuinely interested in you. Go and explain everything to him. Just blame it all on that insidious sister-in-law of yours. Say she deliberately ruined your reputation because she knew about your meeting with Terence. Once you win him over and announce your engagement, this whole scandal will look like Natalie’s petty revenge. It's the perfect solution."
Right now, Marie's reputation was in tatters.
Her mother's plan was indeed a viable way out of this mess.
"Mom, I'm so lucky to have you."
Marie smiled. Darren was certainly exceptional, but even in a wheelchair, Terence commanded more status and power.
More importantly, getting involved with Darren wouldn't salvage her reputation. But being with Terence was a different story entirely.
"Darren, I have to go out for a bit," she said, turning to him. "Trust me, I will find a way to get the Cross Group out of this crisis."
…
At the hotel.
Liana stared intently at the small cake she had made. Would the pretty lady like it?
She had originally decorated it with strawberries and mangoes, but then a thought struck her—what if the pretty lady was allergic to mangoes? She quickly replaced them with peaches.
She had poured her heart into this cake, a small vessel carrying all her hopes.
"Come on, sis, stop staring. The cake looks great. She's going to love it."
Lucas watched his sister inspect the cake for what felt like the eight hundredth time. It was clear she really liked this Marie woman.
"Don't worry, Liana. It must have fallen out when we got out of the car. I'll go find it. You wait here and be good."
Lucas hurried out to search for his sister's clip. At that moment, Marie, hidden behind sunglasses and a mask, arrived at the door. With the scandal raging, she was a pariah and wanted to avoid any unnecessary trouble.
As her hand touched the doorknob, she considered taking off the mask. But then she remembered that Terence must already know about her and Darren. It would be better to keep the disguise on and play the role of a pitiful victim.
Marie pushed the door open, expecting to find Terence waiting inside.
But when the door swung open, she saw not Terence, but a little girl.
"Whose kid are you? What are you doing here? I have a meeting with the CEO of the Lockwood Group. Are you trying to cause trouble?"
A meeting with her daddy? So this was the pretty lady. But why was she wearing sunglasses and a mask?

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
