“Darren, I've cut all ties with the Ward family. I'm never going back, and I'll never get any of their assets. So don't you or your son get any ideas.”
“Do you really think we only regret it because you're Ms. Ward?”
“Isn't that the reason?”
Natalie's gaze was full of distance and accusation. “No, that's not it,” Darren said urgently. “Even if you weren't Ms. Ward, Hanley and I... we both need you.”
“You need a glorified babysitter, that's what you mean. But I'm not going back to being your nanny.”
“How could you be our nanny? You're my wife. You're Hanley's mother.”
“What's the point of saying all this now? It's impossible for us. We can never go back to the way things were, and I don't want to.”
Natalie grew more agitated. She focused on trying to start the fire, desperate for someone to find them here.
“It was our fault before. We'll never treat you like an unpaid nanny again. If you'll just agree to be with us, I'll do everything from now on. I'll take good care of you, take good care of our son. Can't we just be a happy family of three?”
Darren grabbed Natalie's hand, his eyes intense. Why was she so desperate to leave him? Wasn't it good for them to be alone like this? Why was she fighting so hard to get away?
“Darren, don't you think it's a little late for all this? I have no interest in the future you're imagining. Let go of me!”
Natalie wrenched her hand away. Darren's eyes filled with hurt.
“Is it because of Terence Lockwood? No matter how good he is, he's still a cripple, isn't he? Why would you choose him over me?”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
