Natalie took a few bills from her purse to give to the little boy, but he refused.

“I’m very safe out here, pretty lady. It’s other people who aren’t safe. We have a connection, so I won’t charge you. I just hope you can get away from that jerk soon. Follow the light, and you’ll find your way.”

Natalie was touched by the boy’s radiant smile. It was so full of sunshine.

“Well, if you won’t take my money, then I guess that makes us friends. What’s your name?”

“Lucas Lockwood.”

“Lucas Lockwood. That’s a lovely name. I have to go now, Lucas. You get home soon, okay?”

Since the boy was adamant about not taking the money, Natalie had no choice but to leave.

His refusal reminded her a little of herself, as she never charged for her consultations either.

She hoped she would see him again someday.

Natalie had only taken a few steps when she heard a shout from behind her.

“A child has collapsed!”

She spun around to see that it was Lucas, the little fortune-teller.

“Lucas, can you hear me?”

Natalie rushed to his side and gathered him in her arms. He was already unconscious. She quickly checked his pulse and vitals, her brow furrowing in concern.

He had... fainted from the heat.

Natalie undid the small tie around his neck, loosened the collar of his T-shirt, and unbuttoned the buttons at his waist to let the clothes hang looser and breathe..

A crowd of onlookers began to mutter amongst themselves.

“What is she doing? She looks so young. Does she even know what she’s doing?”

“Hey, are you sure you know what you’re doing? Maybe we should just call an ambulance.”

“Is that even your kid? You can’t just go poking someone else’s child.”

Natalie ignored the whispers and focused on treating the boy.

As she finished her actions, Lucas’s eyes fluttered open.

“Wha... what happened?”

“You have heatstroke.”
