“Daddy, I was just out for a walk.”
“She was the woman by the river the other night.”
Lucas offered a sheepish grin.
“You caught me, Daddy. I just thought the pretty lady was interesting. Calling the cops and having those two arrested... it was a great cliffhanger. I wanted to see what happened next.”
“The ‘what happened next’ you wanted to see was someone else’s divorce? And when they didn’t get one, you decided to encourage it?”
“Daddy, she has to get rid of the wrong person to meet the right one. I just feel like the pretty lady deserves better.”
“We went fishing that night, didn’t we? It seems to me you’re the one who got hooked.”
Lucas chuckled awkwardly. Why did his dad have to call him out like that?
He just felt that the pretty lady was exactly what his dream mommy would be like.
And seeing her go through something like this made him righteously indignant on her behalf.
“Daddy, don’t you think that if our ‘princess’ were to grow up, she’d look just like this pretty lady?”
Terence didn't answer, his expression unreadable.
Just then, a team of bodyguards rushed over.
“Mr. Lockwood, we are so sorry. We failed to keep an eye on the young master. Is he alright?”
“He’s fine. He was just stalking someone on the street and gave himself heatstroke.”
Lucas was speechless. How could his own father expose him so ruthlessly?
Darren’s face was grim. “She has made breakfast every single day for the past five years. The Cross family can afford maids. Stop targeting her.”
Natalie glanced at Darren and gave a bitter smile.
It was rare for him to defend her. The guilt of a cheating man was truly a pathetic sight.
“She’s my daughter-in-law. It’s her duty to serve me. Natalie, get in the kitchen and cook.”
“You’re right, Mother. It is a daughter-in-law’s duty to serve her mother-in-law. Marie is also your daughter-in-law. Shouldn’t she be making you breakfast as well?”
Victoria looked as if she might faint from sheer rage. She pointed a trembling finger at Natalie. “How dare you compare yourself to Marie? Look at her background, and then look at yours. Is Marie the kind of woman who belongs in a kitchen? If it weren’t for her, how would the Cross family have ever secured the deal with the Fairchild Conglomerate? Do you have her skills? If you did, then you wouldn’t have to be stuck at home cooking and cleaning.”
At that moment, Marie looked at Natalie with condescending eyes. “It’s not that I’m unwilling to cook for Mother, but there are countless urgent matters at the Cross Group that require my attention. By the way, if you’re not going to take care of your mother-in-law, you should at least look after your own child. Hanley couldn’t find the violin he wanted and was throwing a tantrum. I was the one who had to calm him down and get him to go to school.”
Natalie knew her son’s stubborn nature. If he hadn’t found that specific violin, there was no way he would have gone to kindergarten.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
