“I won’t refuse that offer. Thank you.”
Terence watched her leave, lost in thought.
…
THE NEXT DAY, AT THE LOCKWOOD ESTATE.
The old butler asked, “Young Master, all the enrollment paperwork is done. Are you going to kindergarten today?”
“Yes, of course I am!” Lucas replied, his eyes suddenly glinting with a sharp, determined light.
AT THE KINDERGARTEN ENTRANCE.
When Hanley stepped out of a luxury car, he immediately caused a stir.
“Look, it’s Hanley!”
“Hanley, you’re here!”
Lots of children swarmed around him, and the teachers’ gazes were fixed on him as well. Hanley was, after all, the kindergarten’s celebrity.
Every child in the school knew who he was.
Hanley, who was typically unsmiling and aloof, simply gave a slight nod and walked into the school, seemingly unfazed by the enthusiastic reception.
Once Hanley was in the classroom, another child sidled up to him. “Hanley, I saw you on TV yesterday. Your mommy is a bad mommy. You’re so pitiful.”
Hanley’s face hardened. “Mind your own business.”
“Hanley, your mommy is so mean. She actually hits you. My mommy would never hit me.”
“My mommy loves me the most. If I get even a little scratch, she gets really worried and gives me the best food in the world.”
Listening to the other children, Hanley felt a surge of annoyance.
He couldn’t stand being second-best in anything.
“So what if my mommy is a bad mommy? My auntie is really nice to me. And she’s the heir to the Ward Group. The Ward Group will be hers one day. Then my daddy and my auntie will both be CEOs, and I’ll be a CEO too. We’re a family of CEOs.”
“A whole family of CEOs, that’s so cool! But isn’t a family supposed to be a daddy, a mommy, and us? Is your auntie going to become your new mommy?”
“My auntie will definitely be my mommy one day.”
