Chaos Girl Rewrites the Script novel Chapter 649

"Finally, regarding the torture charge, Miss Lexton, please remember this: you must frame your actions entirely as self-defense."

Vivienne leaned her head on her hand and rubbed her temples. "The judge isn't blind. Who's going to believe that?"

Mr. Caine pushed his glasses up his nose. "Miss Lexton, in a courtroom, every individual has the absolute right to express their perspective. No one can strip you of that right. Your job is to clearly articulate your defense. Whether the judge chooses to accept it is an entirely different issue."

Vivienne looked thoughtful.

Seeing her actually processing his words, Mr. Caine knew he was getting through to her. He continued, "Now let's discuss another angle. Athelvia's current legal boundaries for defining self-defense are notoriously murky. It often hinges on the subjective emotions of the judge and the jury. So... we can leverage your previous medical report to explain your erratic behavior. Starting right now, you need to convince yourself every single day that you were simply protecting yourself and the other victim."

Vivienne nodded. "Understood."

Mr. Caine finally let out a sigh of relief and picked up his coffee. "Review these documents, Miss Lexton. Your mother is waiting outside to see you. I'll leave you to it."

"Mr. Caine," Vivienne called out.

"Is there anything else you need clarified?" Mr. Caine paused and turned back.

Vivienne locked eyes with him. "If I truly was an arrogant, sadistic psycho who murdered people for fun?"

Mr. Caine blinked. "Excuse me?"

"Would you still defend someone like that?"

Mr. Caine thought for a moment, set his briefcase down, and sat back in his chair. "Yes."

"Why?"

He took off his glasses, openly meeting Vivienne's scrutinizing gaze. "Because that is the faith I chose when I became a lawyer. My job is to defend my client. I leave the judgment to the law."

Warmth bloomed in Vivienne's chest, and she flashed a bright grin.

"Wipe that grin off your face." Talia shot her a scolding glare and pulled out a chair.

Vivienne instantly dropped the smile. "I'm sorry for worrying you."

She had caused an apocalyptic mess, yet she was sitting there smiling. Even though Talia hadn't said a word about it, Vivienne knew exactly how many strings Talia had pulled to pave a safe path for her.

Declaring she would represent herself looked like a bold, heroic move, but it completely disregarded the sheer terror Talia was feeling.

Talia's expression softened, and she let out a long sigh. "Tell me. Why do you insist on representing yourself?"
