But what choice did she have? Ever since Cyril's affection points had shot up overnight, she had firmly resolved to abandon the 'Little Stray' task entirely.
With an affection meter that stretched longer than her actual lifespan, it was obviously a trap laid by the Gate of Narrative, and she refused to fall for it.
"..." Cyril fell into a brief silence, his gaze dark and unreadable. "Are you telling the truth?"
"Absolutely!" Vivienne nodded frantically, terrified he wouldn't buy it. "I admit, my personality is a little terrible, but there's nothing I can do about it. I can't change. I'm afraid you just have to deal with it."
When he didn't respond, she adopted an earnest, slightly patronizing tone. "Look, what's done is done. You're a guy, getting a little more life experience isn't exactly a loss for you. Just... consider it a lesson learned."
Cyril stared at her through hooded eyes. How did she manage to spout such utter nonsense with a straight face and still look so adorable doing it?
After a moment of thought, Cyril leaned in, pressing his hands against the edge of the bed. His deep eyes shimmered with a dangerous light.
"Vivienne, let's give it a try. I promise to make every day thrilling and fun for you."
Vivienne, who had been sitting there looking as smug as a fisherman who had just caught a prize marlin, felt her composed facade shatter into pieces.
"Try what?"
Cyril looked down, meeting her eyes. "Anything. As long as you're willing to be with me, I'll play whatever game you want. We can make it as thrilling as you like."
Vivienne froze, her lips twitching as she subtly shrank back. She had been spouting absolute garbage, but Cyril sounded like he was dead serious.
"So, what do you say?"
What did he mean, what did she say? Vivienne steeled herself and met his gaze. "No! I'm going to be Grandfather's granddaughter. We're... not suitable."
Cyril didn't miss a beat. "I can step down from being Grandfather's grandson."
Vivienne was instantly annoyed. "Cyril, have you lost your mind over love? Grandfather treats you so well, saying something like that makes you completely heartless."
Cyril countered smoothly. "Then you step down from being his granddaughter."
"In your dreams! I'm absolutely being his granddaughter."
