Inside the Main Hall, Caspian Ravenshire lifted his teacup. His commanding gaze swept over the family members gathered around the heavy mahogany table. He blew softly on the hot liquid, took a slow sip, and finally broke the silence. "I assume you are all aware of what happened at the estate the other night. Tell me, what are your thoughts?"
Dorian spoke first, subtly rubbing his aching arm. "The police reports confirmed that the raiders were part of the same crew from the Merriton City kidnapping case. Caspian, this was clearly a deliberate, targeted act of revenge."
Benedict leaned forward, his brow furrowed. "Those raiders must have entered the country illegally. The Shadow Chamber has been tracking them for two days, but all we found was a motel they used in Stormhollow Deepwater Port. For their tracks to be wiped this clean, the mastermind has to be deeply connected."
"This whole mess started with the Cavanaugh family," Lucian chimed in. "Could they be the ones pulling the strings?"
Talia frowned, her expression grave. "I spoke with Vivienne and Bianca. The people who attacked them were from entirely different factions."
Benedict paused, confused. "Different factions? What do you mean?"
"The night the estate was breached, one group kidnapped Bianca, while another relentlessly hunted Vivienne. That doesn't sound like a general attack on the Ravenshire family. It sounds like an attack aimed specifically at me."
Talia fixed a pointed, icy glare on Dorian across the table. "I really have no idea whose toes I've stepped on. I'm just a woman minding my own business, yet someone is desperate enough to send killers after my two daughters."
Benedict hadn't realized the full extent of the chaos. His expression darkened as he turned to Aurelia for confirmation.
Aurelia lowered her eyes and gave a subtle nod.
Furious, Benedict glared at Dorian. "Since when did the defense lines along the Southbay Shoreline become so pathetic? If I recall correctly, the commander of Merriton's Ten Fleets is a very close friend of yours, Dorian."
Dorian caught the thinly veiled accusation. He let out a cold, humorless chuckle and calmly picked up his teacup. At his level of power, he wasn't stupid enough to fall into the trap of aggressively defending himself over a mere insinuation.
Seeing Dorian refuse to take the bait, Lucian turned his attention back to Caspian.
"Caspian, the military completely locked down the entire mountain that night. You must know something we don't."
