"Oh! Silly me," Chloe mocked, feigning realization. "Your mother was already planning a buy-one-get-two-free deal anyway. Neither of you have an ounce of shame."
"You!" Isabella trembled uncontrollably. "You framed me, and now you're slandering me!"
Chloe dismissed Isabella entirely, offering a cold sneer. "Listen to her, making up fairy tales. What, did we force you into that dress at gunpoint?"
Isabella opened her mouth to fight back, but Serena yanked her arm hard, her face dark. "Isabella, stop talking."
"Mom..."
Why stop? Why should I let them humiliate us? Haven't I endured enough torment over the last five years?!
This was Stormhollow. Once the rumors from tonight leaked, her reputation would be permanently obliterated.
"Why shouldn't she speak?"
Someone echoed her exact thought.
Isabella froze. She looked up. The person she hated most in the world was sitting in her wheelchair, looking at her with an infuriating calmness. Her gaze was just as annoying as it had always been, piercing right through her soul.
Chloe scoffed. "Because she has no dignity, so she doesn't dare speak. Remember this: trash will always be trash. A gutter rat can never become a swan." She threw a provocative, challenging look directly at Vivienne.
Vivienne just smiled. "My grandfather always told me that true ignorance begins the moment you try to define something. Because once a fixed mindset takes root, prejudice becomes an immovable mountain. People trapped by these arbitrary rules will never live a life with any real soul. I used to only half-understand what he meant, but looking at all of you tonight, I finally see the truth of it."
"The filthy-minded see filth. It is a perfectly beautiful dress, yet you insist on breaking it down with the most vulgar, repulsive interpretations. So I ask you—is it the dress that is dirty, or is it every single one of you?"
