Lydia was straightforward, and Isabella felt comfortable with her almost immediately. So, she said, "Okay."
"Lydia, come take my hand for a round! I'm feeling a bit tired."
A sugary voice rang out. Isabella looked toward the table, and her gaze landed on the woman who had just spoken. Isabella remembered she was Theodore's aunt. As for her specific rank in the family, Isabella did not remember.
Theodore had said it was not important.
"Mom, if you're tired, just rest. I don't know how to play," Lydia said indifferently. This detached attitude seemed completely out of place with the word "Mom". Moreover, after saying that, Lydia dragged Isabella away.
Isabella looked at her sharply defined and sexy side profile in surprise. From behind them, the sound of cold ridicule and gossip could still be heard.
"She hasn't even got the keys to the Sinclair residence yet, and she's already putting on the airs of the lady of the house?"
"Now that Theodore isn't here, she dares to give us an attitude. If Theodore were here, she'd probably be bossing us around, right?"
"Aunt, your daughter-in-law has quite a personality. Do you think Jason can stand such a domineering wife?"
Lydia dragged Isabella out with large strides, pretending not to hear the gossip.
When they walked out into the garden, the view was open and the air was fresh. Isabella instantly felt relieved.
The two ladies who were meeting for the first time looked at each other and smiled before breaking out into laughter.
"Thank you…" Isabella said sincerely. She knew that Lydia had done it to help her out of a tight spot. Thinking back to how she had stood there foolishly all alone, she felt she must have looked quite pitiful.
Lydia smiled and said, "I just thought you looked like a little rabbit that wouldn't run even if it was bullied. It just so happens that I used to raise a rabbit!"
Isabella was pleasantly surprised. "Really?"
Lydia's tone was flat. "Yes, but it died. It was silly, like you. It wouldn't run when it was bullied, so it was beaten to death."
Isabella's expression froze. She wanted to comfort Lydia, but she did not know what to say. She even received a disdainful eye roll from Lydia, who said, "I'm just telling you not to be so silly in the future."
An awkward laugh later, Isabella explained for herself, "I was just thinking about how to turn and leave so that I would appear a bit cooler. Usually, when someone bullies me, I fight back on the spot! Really!"
"I sure hope so. I have things to do, so I won't keep you company. Have fun."
After Lydia spoke, she waved her hand and walked away.
Isabella looked at her retreating figure and sighed inwardly. How could someone have such a hot body and such a likable personality at the same time?
"Be my good girl…" Theodore's mellow voice became husky.
Isabella's voice was tinged with a crying tone. "Theodore… No…"
Only then did Theodore stop.
She finally had a moment to breathe. She quickly took a step back and raised her hand to stop him from approaching.
He watched her movements and chuckled softly. His eyes were full of tenderness for her.
"Bella, are you guarding against me?"
Isabella felt extremely aggrieved and looked at him nervously. "No… Just… not here."
Seeing that she was truly nervous, he finally let her off. "Okay, okay. Don't be afraid. I won't do anything to you."
Her pounding heart gradually slowed down. She really did not understand what was wrong with him today.
At this moment, she suddenly heard him ask, "Did somebody bully you just now?"
