At 5:00 am, Theodore finally took Isabella home.

It was going to be daybreak soon. Theodore asked her to get some sleep in the car, but how could she possibly fall asleep?

He reached over and took her hand. His palm carried a familiar warmth that dispelled some of the chill of the night. His gentle voice sounded in her ears. "Were you terrified?"

Isabella was lost in her thoughts, so it took a moment for his words to register. After a few seconds, she turned her head blankly with a trace of confusion in her eyes. "What?"

His tone carried a hint of helplessness and apology. "I'm sorry for letting you see the darkest side of the Sinclair family."

She stared blankly at him. His side profile appeared exceptionally clear in the dim light of the car. His features were distinct yet revealed a touch of tenderness.

She answered almost subconsciously, "It doesn't matter. Anyway, our agreement is only for one year. I'll be leaving eventually."

Only after the words were out did Isabella freeze. The words seemed to have popped out just like that, carrying a secret she thought she had hidden in the bottom of her heart.

She hurriedly raised her eyes to look at Theodore, attempting to find a trace of emotional fluctuation on his face. However, his expression was so calm that she could not detect anything wrong. It was as if he had only heard an insignificant remark.

Isabella's heart sank. She could not tell if it was disappointment or relief.

She wondered if he had heard her just now. If he had, did such an emotionless reaction mean that he also tacitly agreed that what was between them was nothing more than an agreement with a deadline?

Did it mean that once the time was up, they would separate and have nothing to do with each other again?

Isabella turned her head to look out the window in disappointment. What she had not seen was Theodore increasing the force in his hands as he gripped the steering wheel the moment he heard her words. His knuckles turned white, and even the edges of his fingers were slightly red from the force.

Silence stretched between them for a few moments. Theodore finally spoke, his voice lower than before. "Bella, Jessie left a letter for you."

Isabella was surprised. She could not understand what he meant.

Theodore could see through her thoughts at a glance every time. He explained directly, "She killed herself."

Her heart skipped a beat. It took Isabella several seconds to truly comprehend the meaning behind Theodore's words.

Although her relationship with Jessie had turned sour, they used to be good friends, after all. A perfectly fine person was suddenly gone… No matter how many misunderstandings had arisen, their shared times in the past were real.

Isabella felt a hollow ache in her chest, as if a piece of her had been carved out. It hurt to even breathe.

"Where's the letter…" Her voice was hoarse.
