All morning, Isabella couldn't focus. Something about Alexander's attitude unsettled her. By the time her shift ended, she had only managed to finish about a third of her work. It looked like she'd be staying late again tonight.
Normally, she would have lunch with Jessie in the cafeteria, but they had a falling out that morning. When she walked in, she saw Jessie already sitting with another coworker. Jessie glanced up, then quickly dropped her head, pretending she hadn't seen her.
Isabella didn't bother with her. She walked right past them, got her food, and sat at an empty table by herself. It turned out eating alone wasn't as bad as she'd imagined.
"Did you hear? SunnyBite recently left the industry and admitted to plagiarizing. I can't believe it. I used to like her so much!"
"How many of these celebs and influencers are actually clean with no scandals? Just follow their work and forget the rest."
"But she plagiarized too! That's wild."
"She copied our company's designs, right? Honestly, our boss is amazing for standing up for his employees."
"And let's be real. He's hot. Seriously, with looks like that, even if he was in the entertainment industry, he'd still be a total heartthrob."
The two coworkers went on and on, gushing about Alexander's looks. Isabella sat quietly, eating with a blank face, as if the person they were swooning over had nothing to do with her.
And the truth was, he truly didn't. She was just surprised Alexander had gone after SunnyBite. She'd thought that he wasn't going to step in, judging by his earlier attitude.
When she finished eating and left the cafeteria, she saw Jessie waiting at the door. As soon as she spotted her, Jessie rushed over. "Isabella, can we talk?"
Isabella shot her a cold look and said flatly, "Jessie, there's nothing left to say between us. I decided not to hold it against you for what happened yesterday for the sake of our old friendship. But I can't just pretend it never happened."
With that, she turned and walked away.
"Jessie, this has nothing to do with me. The transfer was a company decision."
"It was you! If you hadn't talked to Mr. Sinclair, why would he suddenly have me reassigned? Isabella! I'm begging you, please don't let them send me to Riverine! I'll even get down on my knees if I have to!"
They were standing in the company cafeteria, with people coming and going. Jessie was clearly trying to humiliate her.
Isabella looked at her like she was trash, said nothing, and walked straight out.
If Jessie wanted to make a scene, so be it. Everyone was too busy working to care. In a few days, nobody would even remember this.
But whether she got transferred or quit, the outcome was already set in stone. Even if she dropped to her knees, nothing would change.
