When it was almost time to clock out, Alexander finally came out of his own office and instructed Isabella coldly, "Isabella! I'll be on a business trip for the next few days, so you can make your own arrangements regarding work matters."
When Isabella looked up, she just so happened to meet his scrutinizing gaze. She noticed that he was staring at her neck, his expression growing colder and colder. A thought occurred to her, and she reflexively shrank back.
In response, Alexander snorted coldly and walked into the elevator. Isabella felt embarrassed.
She had specifically used foundation to cover up the hickeys on her neck before leaving the house today. However, Theodore had probably left several of them on purpose, so she couldn't hope to cover them completely.
…
When Isabella got home after work, Agnes had just finished tidying up and was taking a trash bag out to be thrown away. Upon seeing Isabella, she greeted her respectfully, "You're back, Mrs. Sinclair."
Isabella smiled and nodded. "Thank you for your hard work."
Agnes chuckled. "It's nothing. By the way, Mrs. Sinclair, someone from a clothing store came by to deliver some clothes. I've placed them in the closet for you. Would it be alright if I came by tomorrow to wash them for you?"
Isabella replied, "Of course. I'm in no hurry to wear them."
In truth, she had never worn any of the clothes in that closet. She didn't know how much they cost before, but now that she knew, she was even more reluctant to wear them. It would be such a pity if she were to wear them out and accidentally get them dirty.
Ruth happened to be setting out dishes on the table when she entered the living room.
"Dinner will be ready soon, Mrs. Sinclair," Ruth immediately informed her. "You'll be able to start on the food once you've washed your hands."
Isabella replied, "I'll wait for Mr. Sinclair to join me."
Ruth explained, "Mr. Sinclair mentioned that an important guest is returning to Alverton today, so there's no need to wait for him as he'll be eating out."
An important guest? Someone important enough that the head of the Sinclair family was personally picking them up? It looked like they were rather important, indeed.
She didn't understand the workings of the upper class' social circle anyway, so it was pointless for her to ask. Since Theodore had told her to go ahead, she'd do just that.
After dinner, she browsed the forums again. The first dozen posts she saw on the forums were all related to Glamoore and SunnyBite. The netizens were all speculating on whether Glamoore would make an appearance at the gathering.
Isabella couldn't be bothered to look through the chaotic comments.
She checked the commission board and came across one offering a decent price. The request was for a painting themed around a dragon. She was quite interested in it, so she accepted the commission.
"Gratitude? You must be most familiar with it, Giselle! After all, over the many years you studied abroad, every penny your parents earned was sent your way!
"Oh, and by the way, your mother once fell ill in the middle of the night, but your father was nowhere to be found and couldn't be reached on his phone. I was the one who carried her to the hospital. If not for me, your mother would be long dead!
"If you're that hung up on having others repay their gratitude, how about you repay me as well?"
"You—"
Margaret snatched the phone from Giselle and shouted, "Isabella Moore! I'm telling you—if you don't give us three million dollars, we'll ask that man for it directly! When that time comes, I'll make a fuss so that everyone in Solara will know about it! Don't force my hand!"
"Margaret Davis! You're truly unreasonable! Don't blame me later for not warning you—you'd better not mess around, because you can't afford to handle the consequences!"
"Are you trying to scare me? I've never been afraid of anyone! Just you wait, Isabella!"
The beeping that followed after the call was hung up got on Isabella's nerves.
Margaret would definitely kick up a fuss. She had to inform Theodore beforehand so that he would be mentally prepared for it.
