Admittedly, Isabella wasn't a virtuous person who could just walk away from this. She took a couple of steps down the stairs just so she could listen in on what else Queenie and Theodore were going to say.
"I'm not eating. I don't feel like eating. I don't want to eat!" Queenie protested in a cute yet spiteful voice.
Theodore let out a helpless sigh.
Worried that he'd actually disregard her, Queenie hurried down the stairs and said, "The dishes are all cold now. How could I possibly eat them?"
Theodore said, "I'll heat them up for you, then."
"Okay!" Queenie agreed in a joyful tone.
The pair entered the dining room together. While Queenie sat in the dining room and waited for Theodore, he brought the dishes into the kitchen.
Bliss was written all over Queenie's face. She even called out in a demanding voice toward the kitchen, "Theodore, I'm not going to eat those brussels sprouts, though. I'll only eat your leftovers!"
Theodore replied from within the kitchen, "I'll make pasta for you."
"Sure! It's been a long time since I've had your pasta. I've missed it so much."
The exchange between the two sounded just like a conversation between an actual married couple.
Isabella ascended back up the stairs, scoffing at herself as she returned to her room. She and Theodore were only going to be married for a year anyway. Once their time was up, they'd go their separate ways. Fortunately, it wasn't too late for her to avoid getting emotionally attached.
…
Isabella stirred twice in the middle of the night, only to find that the space next to her was empty. Theodore hadn't come back to bed.
It would be a lie to say that she wasn't disappointed. Nevertheless, she still chose to have faith in his character. There was no way that he would get involved with Queenie in any way while they were still married. Perhaps he was spending the night in the study.
…
"Bella, it's time to wake up," Theodore prompted gently.
Isabella opened her weary eyes. She hadn't slept well last night, so it was quite a struggle to open her eyes.
She felt someone pick her up from the bed, then found herself falling into the person's warm and full embrace. She was completely surrounded by a familiar and fragrant presence.
"Time to get out of bed, sleepy head. Have you forgotten what we're supposed to do today?" Theodore asked.
"We're going… Where are we going again?"
Theodore chuckled softly, his voice filled with tender affection for Isabella. "We're going to a mountain villa to have some fun."
She simply wanted to cry out so that he'd sympathize with her. As expected, he comforted her immediately by gently rubbing the part of her arm that he had pinched earlier.
In a stern voice, he warned, "I won't allow you to do so even if you wanted to. No one can break their contracts with me."
"I'm not breaking my contract. I'm broke, and I still need to support you financially with my money."
Theodore chuckled. Tenderly, he said, "Alright. I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have your financial support."
The couple spent some time being affectionate with one another. By the time they went downstairs, Queenie was already having breakfast.
When she saw the pair coming downstairs together, hand in hand, she rolled her eyes before lowering her head to continue eating her breakfast.
Isabella's guess turned out to be right. Theodore didn't spend the night in Queenie's room last night. Otherwise, she wouldn't have reacted in this way.
The three had their breakfast while an awkward tension filled the room. When it was time to leave, they were faced with another issue—the seating arrangement.
By the time Isabella and Theodore stepped out of the house, Queenie was already in the front passenger seat.
When she saw that the pair had come outside, she lowered the car window and stuck her head out. She smiled faintly at Isabella, saying, "I'm sorry, Ms. Moore. I'm used to sitting in the front passenger seat when taking Theodore's car. I'm afraid you'll have to make do with the backseat."
