As if performing a magic trick, he pulled out a share transfer agreement and laid it on the table in front of her.

Vanessa spun around, a wildly sarcastic smile curving her lips. "What is done is done, and what is given away cannot be taken back. Don't be so greedy, Lucas. A man who wants everything will eventually end up with nothing."

"You don't need to worry your pretty little head about that, honey."

His smile was polite, but his eyes were completely devoid of warmth. His tone abruptly shifted, sharp and threatening. "You don't have to sign it. But if you don't, I can't guarantee that Sunlight Haven will be able to keep its doors open."

"You are despicable!"

Vanessa furiously swatted his hands away, her knuckles turning white as a suffocating wave of anger and disgust washed over her. The fury blazing in her eyes looked ready to consume the man standing before her.

Lucas's hands froze mid-air, the gentle facade slipping slightly, but he still looked incredibly smug, knowing exactly how to exploit her weakness.

"Don't blame me, Vanessa."

He reached out, attempting to stroke her cheek, feigning a tone of heartbreak. "I am just terrified of losing you."

"Even now, you are still lying!"

Vanessa jerked her head away, her voice ringing with icy disappointment. "Are you really afraid of losing me, or are you just terrified that I'll sell my shares and threaten your control over Vortex Group?"

Ultimately, the only person he loved was himself. He just wanted to cut off her escape routes and keep her locked up beside him to satisfy his sick obsession with control.

Right on cue, Lucas's phone started ringing. He glanced at the caller ID, his face darkening, and immediately rejected the call. But less than a second later, the relentless ringing started up again.

"Aren't you going to answer? Your little girlfriend might have an emergency."

Lucas's jaw clenched as he finally answered. Whatever was said on the other end made a flash of sinister anger cross his face.

"Fine. I am on my way."
