He stepped up to her and dropped to one knee. Without a word, he shucked off his black overcoat and carefully bundled her into the thick, warm fabric.
The oversized coat completely swallowed her trembling frame, shielding her from the cold and hiding her vulnerable state.
Reaching out, he gently cradled the back of her neck, his touch steady and tender, before scooping her up into his arms.
The heat from his palms seeped through the thin material, sending a sharp shiver through her.
"Don't be afraid. I'm getting you out of here."
His deep voice offered an undeniable sense of security. Carrying her securely against his chest, he spun around and marched steadily out of the chaotic room.
As they reached the doorway, Alistair glanced down at the woman in his arms, then shifted his gaze to the pathetic men groaning on the floor. His expression was as cold as frost. He parted his lips and dropped a single, icy command.
"Interrogate them."
His head of security, Quentin Pierce, offered a sharp nod.
"Consider it done. I will make sure they spill everything."
The heater in the car only intensified the suffocating heat radiating through Vanessa's body. Nestled in Alistair's arms, the drugs began to fully take hold of her.
"So hot... It's so hot..."
Her mind felt like it was floating on a cloud, her only anchor the crisp, intoxicating masculine scent wrapping around her.
She reached up, her burning fingers fumbling with the collar of his shirt and grazing his Adam's apple. Her head instinctively buried into the crook of his neck, her lips brushing against his jawline as she let out soft, erratic pants.
Alistair went totally rigid. Dark storms brewed in his eyes. He tightened his grip on her, his voice tight and raspy. "Hold on. We are almost at the hospital."
But she was far beyond reason. Tipping her flushed face up, her hazy eyes locked onto his. She threw her arms around his neck and suddenly smashed her lips against his.
The moment their lips met, the scorching heat of her breath mingled with a sweet softness. She clumsily but desperately parted his lips.
Frustrated when she couldn't immediately deepen the kiss, she let out an annoyed whine and bit down on his lower lip.
Alistair's Adam's apple bobbed violently, his control teetering dangerously on the edge. A fierce wave of desire bled into his dark eyes. Flipping the script, he crushed his mouth against hers, dominating the kiss with demanding intensity.
The driver silently rolled up the privacy partition, keeping his eyes glued to the road as he sped up.
