The moment that face registered, every ounce of warmth vanished from Lucas's expression, immediately replaced by a freezing, abyssal darkness. He forcefully yanked his hands back, retreating half a step as his gaze sharpened into blades.
"Why are you here? Who the hell said you could wear Vanessa's clothes?"
She was wearing a pale pink silk nightgown with delicate pearl lacework along the collar. It was the exact one he had personally picked out for Vanessa at a boutique in Paris last year. Vanessa always said the fabric felt incredible against her skin and wore it every night. Seeing it draped over Chloe now made him feel utterly sick to his stomach.
Chloe shrank back, staring at him like a terrified rabbit, her eyes instantly welling with tears.
"You were so drunk last night, I couldn't bear to leave you alone. I just borrowed her clothes for the night... Luke, you were never this aggressive with me before."
"Take it off." Lucas's voice was stripped of all humanity, his face locked in a wintry glare. "Right now. Take it off."
Chloe bit down on her lip, crystal tears sliding down her cheeks as she let out a bitter, resentful cry.
"You used to tell me she was boring and stiff, that you were sick of her! Now that she's actually gone, we can finally be together in the open. Why are you constantly obsessed with her? What does she have that I don't, huh?"
Before her desperate questioning could finish, a sharp gasp violently tore through the room.
Lucas lunged forward, his large, sculpted hand clamping ruthlessly around her throat. His grip was so punishing it felt like he was going to crush her windpipe.
He slammed her backwards until her lower back collided brutally with the edge of the marble counter, the freezing stone bruising her spine. Her oxygen was instantly cut off.
He practically radiated a murderous, suffocating aura. "I'm allowed to say she's flawed, but you don't get to believe it. You were the one who swore you didn't care about a title, that you just wanted to stay by my side and satisfy my needs. Your biggest mistake was turning your dirty, pathetic schemes onto her."
"If it weren't for the fact that you're pregnant with my child, do you honestly think I would have bailed you out?"
Chloe's face turned a horrifying shade of purple, the veins in her neck bulging. Her hands clawed frantically at his arm, her eyes wide with the raw terror of a woman suffocating.
