Vanessa met the wicked gleam in his eyes and arched her brow.
"Are you trying to seduce me?"
Alistair's lips curled into a daring smile. "And is it working, Vanessa?"
His voice was low, his breath intoxicating and dangerously magnetic.
Her heart gave an inexplicable flutter. Hooking a finger into his collar, she pulled him straight toward the front door.
"Open it."
Alistair punched in the code. If Vanessa had paid closer attention, she would have realized it was her birthday.
The second they stepped into the entryway, she wrapped her arms around his neck, stood on her tiptoes, and crashed her lips against his.
At this point, playing coy would just ruin the mood.
The moment her petal-soft lips met his, Alistair's gaze turned dark and predatory. His strong arms locked around her slender waist, his fingers digging into her soft curves. With a subtle lift, he hoisted her off the ground.
Instinct took over as she lost her footing. Her legs wrapped around his waist, her ankles crossing behind his lower back. Her dress hitched up, allowing the bare skin of her inner thighs to press directly against the heated fabric of his trousers.
His kisses fell hot and heavy, a dominant, unquestionable possessiveness in the slide of their lips. He devoured her until she could barely breathe, swallowing every soft moan that escaped her throat.
Pinned between his hard chest and the cold wall, Vanessa could only surrender to the wildfire of his touch. Trembling, she clung tightly to his shoulders, completely losing herself in his fierce, lingering kisses.
By the time she was pressed into the plush sofa, a sliver of rationality returned to her beautiful eyes.
The living room lights were off, the space draped in shadows. Alistair's predatory gaze was locked onto her.
He resembled a jaguar lying in wait, ready to strike.
Her heart raced wildly.
She had no idea how captivating she looked right now—her dark hair delightfully messy, her eyes shimmering, her lips swollen. She looked like a siren of the deep, impossibly alluring.
Alistair's gaze darkened further. With a swift motion, he stripped off his suit jacket and leaned over, ready to claim her mouth once more.
"Wait..."
At the crucial moment, Vanessa breathed out the word, her hands pressing against his warm chest.
Alistair narrowed his eyes, a dangerous light flickering in their depths. "Don't tell me you're having second thoughts now."
