Vanessa returned to the company. The moment she stepped into her office, her gaze swept over the sofa and paused.
"Waiting for me, Giselle?"
She walked right in, dropping her file onto the desk.
She took a seat in her swivel chair, unhurried and calm.
Raising an eyebrow, she met Giselle's poorly disguised anxious stare.
"Did Elena sign with you?"
"So that's what you're dying to know," Vanessa replied, answering a question with a question. "What do you think?"
She was purposely withholding the answer, entirely amused by the sight of Giselle squirming for the results.
"Are you seriously playing games right now, Vanessa?"
Furious, Giselle shot up from the sofa, marched to the desk, and reached out to snatch the file to look for herself.
Before she could grab it, Vanessa slammed her hand firmly over the folder.
"Giselle, this is the office, not a playground for your temper tantrums!"
Meeting Vanessa's razor-sharp glare, Giselle froze for a split second, genuinely taken aback by her sudden, commanding presence.
"It's a simple yes or no. Why are you acting so mysterious? It's not like I'm going to laugh at you for failing."
Giselle pulled her hand back and crossed her arms over her chest.
Even she couldn't lock down the Vittini deal. Vanessa had been out of Sterling City for three years and was totally disconnected from the current market; there was no way she succeeded.
Vanessa stared at her quietly and said coldly, "Get out."
"You! Ugh!"
Giselle spun around and stormed out in a huff.
Once the door clicked shut, Vanessa rubbed her temples.
She pulled out her phone and found Alistair's contact on her messaging app.
[Mr. Howard, are you free to meet up tonight?]
[I'm a little worn out lately and can't quite service you right now, Ms. Grant. Let's make a date once I've had a chance to recharge.]
Vanessa stared at the text, completely speechless.
How could this bastard lie through his teeth?
Every single time, he was the one making relentless demands, acting like a starving man who hadn't eaten in days.
