Claiming their Omega (Suzi de Beer) novel Chapter 11

  1. DAISY

I shifted nervously in my seat as I glanced around the restaurant. She was running late even though she had texted me to say that she was only twenty minutes away.

It had taken me three days to build up the courage to call my mother to confront her about the lies I had been told. She had insisted that we meet at this restaurant for lunch so we could talk face to face.

Things between Alexander and I were still a bit tense, but he hadn’t been rude or acted like an asshole since our…. talk. I hadn’t told him about the lunch with my mother, but Elias knew. He had been the one to call me a taxi and demanded that I call him if something happened.

He hadn’t offered to come with me, and I wasn’t sure why it made me feel disappointed.

We shared a moment, but whatever happened between us disappeared when Elias left me in that bathroom.

I was surprised that he hadn’t told the others about what happened. Maybe he had, and they just didn’t care.

Shaking my head, I took a sip of water and pulled out my phone to check the time. There was a message from an unknown number.

*12:15: UNKNOWN NUMBER: Hi, I realized that I never gave you my number. This is Elias by the way. Hope lunch is going great.*

I saved his number and let my fingers hover over the keyboard. I glanced around before I typed a reply.

*DAISY: She’s running late. If she’s not here in five minutes, I’ll be leaving.*

*ELIAS: Do you want me to come pick you up?*

I bit my lip as I debated his question. Having Elias pick me up would have made me feel a lot better, but I didn’t want to trouble him. The penthouse wasn’t so far from the restaurant. If I walked fast enough, I could make it back to the penthouse in two minutes.

*DAISY: Thank you, but it’s okay. I don’t want to bother you.*

The three dots appeared, letting me know that he was typing. I waited and waited, but no message came through. Locking my phone, I clutched it in one hand as I looked up.

I tensed, my heartbeat increasing when my eyes locked with familiar ones.

Alexander’s eyes narrowed.

Busted.

Sitting up straighter, I tilted my chin up and held his stare for as long as I could.

He sat at a table a few feet away with a woman seated across from him. They probably just arrived because a waiter stepped up to the table and handed them menus.

It was my cue to leave. I took another sip of the water and then glanced around for the waiter.

Leaving already?

My eyes fluttered closed briefly before I looked up at Alexander.

He frowned down at me. What are you doing here, Daisy?

What do you care?

Alexander raised an eyebrow.

Letting out a sigh, I shifted uncomfortably in the chair. I could lie, but somehow I knew that if I lied it was going

to bite me in the ass later.

I was supposed to meet my mother,I told him softly.

Alexander pulled the chair out across from me and took a seat. My eyes darted to the table he sat at before. The woman he was with was glaring at me. I instantly looked away.

The week is almost up, and there’s been no word from your stepfather. His eyes darted over my face. Why are you meeting with your mother?

Because she’s my mother, and we’re allowed to have lunch.

Liar.Leaning forward, he placed his elbows on the table and silently watched me. I’m making it easy for you Daisy. If you don’t tell me why you’re here, I’ll find out another way, and then I won’t be so friendly.

What about your lady friend over there?I nodded toward her. You can’t just-

I have things to do,he interrupted me, but we can sit here all day if we have to.

I wanted to talk to her about something.

He raised an eyebrow. Talk about what?

My eyes darted around. No lie came to my mind fast enough. The best option would be to tell him the truth, but I didn’t know how much he knew about Elias’s job. They were a family like Elias told me, so he had to have told them something.

My mother lied to me,I said softly. I wanted to confront her about it.

What did she lie to you about?Alexander leaned back in his chair and called over a waiter. Have you eaten yet? Order anything you want, my treat.

I’m not hungry. Thank you.

His lips parted like he was going to argue, but he pursed them a second later and ordered the waiter to bring us two coffees.

Did John tell you anything about me?” I asked him after our coffees had been delivered.

No. I didn’t even know you existed until he announced you at the dinner party.

My eyes dropped to the cup. My mother married him when I was six. I got kidnapped and held for ransom a few months after they got married. Elias was the detective that worked on my case.

When he didn’t say anything, I looked up to find him studying me.

The Valent kid,he finally muttered.

I nodded and continued. My mother made me believe that I was the reason the bomb went off. Elias showed me the reports. It wasn’t because of me. I want to know why she made me believe that it was my fault, why she made me carry this guilt for all these years.

Guilt?

I looked away from him. A lot of people died. Elias hashe got injured.

Well, it is a shitty move to make a little kid feel that way.

My eyes snapped back to his.

Alexander glanced at the expensive watch around his wrist. What do you say we go pay her a visit then? I need to talk to John.

I bit my lip, debating his words. It would be easier to confront her at home where there would be no people around to eavesdrop.

Okay,I agreed.

Alexander smiled as he stood and pulled out a few bills that he dropped onto the table. Come on then, flower girl.

I frowned at the nickname but stood on shaky legs.

Alexander pressed a hand to the small of my back to guide me toward the door. I tried my best to ignore the warmth of his skin seeping into mine through the thin material of the shirt I wore.

He opened the door and allowed me to step out first.

I wished I hadn’t, that I had never made an arrangement to meet my mother in a public place.

Because the moment I stepped out of the restaurant, I was greeted by flashing cameras and shouting men and

women.

My ears started ringing as my heartbeat increased. Memories flooded my mind, and panic took hold of me, making my muscles lock up.

They were shouting and pushing at each other to get closer.

I took a step back and bumped into something.

Sound suddenly penetrated my mind.

“Alex! Alex! Is it true that someone stole over a million dollars from one of your hotels?

Mr. Wyatt! How’s the development going with the sea side hotel?

Who’s the omega?

Is she your new mistress?

Too many people. Too many voices. Too many cameras.

The panic was clawing up my throat. I couldn’t breathe. I tried. I tried to suck air into my lungs but it only made it worse. My hand shot up to claw at my throat.

Fuck.Someone cursed close to my ear. I got you.

His scent filled my nostrils.

Alexander picked me up and guided my face to the crook his neck. I clung to him as he moved.

He stumbled when someone bumped into him but his hold never loosened.

Move! Get out of the way!Someone shouted. You have five fucking seconds before I start shooting!

A scream echoed in the air around us, more shouts were heard and then everything got eerily silent.

Daisygirl.Alexander’s hand slid to the back of my neck. It’s okay. They’re gone.

They might be, but the panic still had a hold of me.

His arm around my waist tightened as his free hand moved down to rub my back. A moment later, his chest started vibrating against mine as he purred.

It was soothing and it calmed me down a little.

But the fact still remained, they took my picture. Tomorrow it would be plastered all over every newspaper.

Get us home, Stevens,Alexander suddenly growled, making my body jerk in fright. Make sure none of the fuckers are following us.

Yes, sir.

Alexander turned his head and brushed his cheek against mine. If I hadn’t been struggling to breathe, that little action would have made the air lock in my throat.

He suddenly tensed, as if he just realized what he had done, but he didn’t pull away.

Listen to my breathing Daisygirl and mimic me,he whispered against my ear. Deep breath in and slowly blow it out. I don’t want you to pass out on me okay? I’m too good looking to go sit in the emergency room.

You think a lot about yourself,I managed to gasp out.

Alexaneder chuckled. You have to in my line of business.

His hand slipped up to the back of my neck again. Moving it under the strands of hair, I sighed as he pressed his cold hand to my overheated skin.

How often does this happen? The teasing tone in his voice was gone and replaced with a seriousness I had never heard from him before.

Not a lot,I lied.

He sighed. We’ll take about this when we get home.

Goosebumps covered every inch of my skin because of Daisy’s warm breath against my throat. I tried to ignore it. I tried to think of anything other than her warm breath against my skin and her soft body pressed against mine.

She was fast asleep with her head resting on my shoulder. Every time I shifted in my seat, her arms would tighten as if she was scared I would leave her.

My alpha instincts were urging me to protect the little omega in my lap.

Did we loose them yet?I asked Stevens.

The sooner we got home, the sooner I could hand her over to Elias and force the rising feelings down.

Almost.

I growled. Fucking assholes. At least, there was only a dozen reporters and Stevens managed to scare them off with his nephew’s water gun. Fuck, it’s going to be all over the news.

Pursing my lips, I carefully shifted in the seat to pull my phone from my pocket. I called Valiant but the call went straight to voicemail. He was probably busy in court.

Elias answered on the first ring. Is she okay?

Did you see?I asked.

Yeah. It’s being shown on all mayor news channels.

I muttered another curse. Daisy stirred, but she didn’t wake up.

Is she okay?Elias questioned again.

She’s sleeping.

He was silent for a few seconds. When are you coming home?

As soon as we loose our tail.

Elias muttered a curse. It could be hours before you manage to loose them. They’re like fucking vultures. He paused. Go to our old apartment building. Use the back fire escape. I’ll be waiting for you there.

He could follow me in.

Do you have a better idea?he growled.

I didn’t. But his plan was risky. We had one reporter following us but it could change at any moment. There might be others following us in unsuspecting cars.

Okay,I muttered, glancing out the window. We’re about twenty minutes away.

I’ll be there.

I gave Stevens the address and then turned my focus to Daisy.

Daisygirl,I said softly as I touched her cheek. Wake up.
