Chapter 304
Chapter 304
Rania breathed raggedly when she realized how wrong she was. She had hurt her mate so bad, thinking she had done the two of them a favor.
She was selfish to think what was best for Maximus when he kept repeating the same thing over and over again that he only wanted her, he didn’t want anyone else.
And her heart broke even more when Maximus asked
“What if I am the one, who can’t give you a child,
question that she couldn’t answer.
willing to sleep with other people to have a child with that man?”
That was when the realization of how wrong she was hit her so bad, raked her body and tears streamed down her face, as she hugged Maximus tightly.
“I am sorry. I am sorry. I am wrong. I am wrong…” Rania hugged Maximus tightly. “I am sorry…” She knew that she had hurt him so bad.
She was so selfish.
She only thought about herself without thinking thoroughly about what actually Maximus wanted. She should have done better than this.
“I am so stupid.” Rania buried her face against the crook of Maximus’s chest. “Please, forgive me.”
However, Maximus was no mad at her, and he said that. “I am not angry with you, Rania. I am not.” Maximus caressed her back. “But, please, don’t make me do this. I can’t.”
“Okay. I will not. I am sorry. I am truly sorry.”
Maximus kissed her cheek, as both of them stayed like that for a long moment. Rania cried silently feeling so ashamed of herself. If she were in Maximus’s shoes and he asked her to sleep with someone else to get her pregnant… she couldn’t imagine how betrayed she would feel.
But, she did exactly that to Maximus.
From people outside, they couldn’t see Maximus and Rania, because both of them were hiding under the table, staring at the moonlight from the window.
“I feel like I am a child again…” Rania finally broke a long silence. She had stopped crying and curled herself on Maximus’s lap, as she rested her head on his shoulder, while Maximus held her closely.
“Were you hiding under the table too when you were upset?”
Rania lifted her head when she caught the word. “Too‘? Don’t tell me you did the same thing?” Rania widened her eyes in surprised when Maximus didn’t say anything, indicating that she was right. “I can’t believe it that you can be so childish too.”
Maximus leaned over to capture her lips, so she could stop giggling. Everything seemed fine again between them, as if they returned to their normal self.
However, there was this important matter that they had to discuss. They had to talk about the elephant in the room, or else, the same thing might happen again.
“I like it here… can we spend the night here?”
“You will have a backpain if you sleep like this.”
Rania smiled widely at Maximus. “I don’t mind, as long as I am with you.”

“I mind it. I told you that I don’t want you to get hurt.” Maximus kissed her forehead. “Don’t get hurt. Don’t be in pain, I can’t handle it.”
Rania snuggled closer against his chest and breathed in his scent. She was reluctant to bring up the topic, but she knew. sooner or later they had to talk about it, and she didn’t want this matter to haunt her day and night.

“What about… the heir? What about the heir to the throne? How… how can you…” Rania couldn’t finish her words because she couldn’t find the right words to say what she wanted to tell Maximus.
But, she didn’t need to, because Maximus knew what she meant.
“I have asked Eiten. I have proposed to him to take the throne,” Maximus said lightly, caressing her hair. He liked this peaceful moment and the fact that they finally really talked about it, facing the main problem that almost destroyed them.
“And he agreed to that?” Rania was surprised, she knew Eiten, the gamma wouldn’t want such a huge responsibility on his shoulders.
“No,” Maximus replied honestly, and Rania laughed at that.
“I know it.” Rania had expected Eiten would wail and whimper when Maximus suggested this. Actually, this was not the first time Maximus had suggested the same thing, but at first Eiten must not think about it seriously.
However, this time was different. The second time would make it very real for the gamma to start worrying about the idea.
“And then what are you going to do? Eiten can be very stubborn when he didn’t want something, right?” Rania felt lighter when they discussed this matter. The discussion was not as scary as she thought.
“I can be more stubborn than him and I have a way to make him agree to my demand.” Maximus tilted his head and looked at Rania. “You don’t need to worry about that.”
Rania shook her head. “No, I don’t worry about it, it is for Eiten to worry.”
Maximus kissed the tip of her nose. “Once everything has settled, and Eiten’s firstborn is big enough, I am going to step down from my throne.”
Hearing that, Rania grimaced. She agreed to his suggestion to let Eiten’s firstborn takes the throne, but when she heard Maximus would step down, a wave of sadness washed over her again.
And Maximus could feel the sadness through the mate bond that they shared.
“You have mentioned about this place before, a place so far in the south, where there is a vast land with a wheatfield. I want to see that place. Do you think, we can live there?”
Maximus remembered Rania had talked about a place that she headed when tried to run away from her pack so many years
ago.
That was the place that she chose because she saw it on the television one day and the image etched in her mind.
“Do you still remember that?” Rania was surprised. She remembered that she only talked about it once, but had never really mentioned it again.
“Of course.” Maximus smiled proudly at his mate, which made Rania giggled. “Do you want to live there? We can shift into our beast and run around the area until sunset and return home after that. There are no more meetings and plots to take me down, there will be no longer a political problem. We can live peacefully. What do you think?”
Rania thought about it. Living that way was always her dream ever since the idea of running away from her pack crossed her mind, but now Maximus would join her. Wouldn’t it be perfect?
“We don’t need to watch our back or even think twice when someone is being nice to us…” Rania contemplated such

peaceful life.

“Right.” Maximus pulled her closer to him. “We can stay on the bed until late in the afternoon, because there will be no one bother us.”
Rania smiled with the thought. “I like it.”
“It’s a deal then.” Maximus kissed her cheek.
“We will grow old, while laying lazily on the bed. I hope you will not get tired of me.”
“I will never. Growing old with you will be the best moment for me. You will never be old for me, Rania. You will always be this radiant and beautiful woman in my eyes.”
Maximus’s words were always sweet. He could be very romantic and poetic if he wanted to and when his heart was in the right moment.
However, the sound from Rania’s stomach ruined it. It growled very loud in this quiet and peaceful evening.
“Ah!” Rania buried her face against the crook of Maximus’s shoulder, while the king laughed heartily. “Don’t laugh! Stop laughing at me!”
“Let’s get you something to eat. I know you must be very hungry.” Maximus then pulled her out from under the table and then both of them walked out of the room.
Cam and Lucian, who were waiting outside were surprised to see the two of them were in a good mood. They didn’t expect this at all.
They didn’t know what happened between the king and queen, but they were not clueless enough not to know that they were fighting.
But, to see the two of them walked hand in hand together, made them realized they must have sort their problem, which was a relief, especially after they learned that the king had killed half of the dungeon.

Rania woke up with a good mood, she stretched out her body and surprisingly, she found Maximus was still sleeping next to her.
“Maximus, don’t you have a meeting today?” Rania shook his body, but he didn’t stir. Today was the day, which most of the kings and queens from the other five kingdoms would arrive at the capital.
Therefore, they had to greet them, but before that, some of them had sent their children to come first, just like what happened with princess Abigail and her brothers.
In that case, Maximus had to attend another meeting with those young princes before their parents came.
Yet, Maximus didn’t look like he was going to wake up any time soon.
“Maximus, you need to wake up,” Rania said with urgency, as she shook his body again, but Maximus pulled her closer instead.
“Let Eiten handle it. Let him practice from now on,” Maximus said sleepily. “I want to stay here a little bit longer. Babysitting those young royals is not my forte.”
Rania was speechless, but she laughed when she imagined Eiten’s sullen expression.
