As he spotted my little fidget, Leonardo’s eyes softened. Reaching over, he placed his hand atop mine on the seat.

“Natalie, it’s September 15th today. We’re officially bonded,” he stated, his voice calm yet impactful as he kept one hand on the steering wheel.

Snapping back to reality, I. gently squeezed his large, strong-boned hand. “Yeah, we are.”

September 15th was his birthday. From this day forward, it’d stop being a painful memory and turn into our shared anniversary.

Upon reaching the downtown area, I hopped out of the car and instinctively grabbed his hand, then made a beeline for the top floor..

“Whoa, in such a rush. Where’re we headed?” He caught my excitement, his tone turning lighter.

“A really cool Moonlit Stone carving studio!” I glanced back and flashed him a sweet smile.

As we stood hand-in-hand on the moving escalator, with me a couple of feet above him, our heights were a perfect match, drawing quite a few looks.

Leonardo seemed ill at ease with all the attention. He frowned slightly and ducked his head. Usually, he’d use VIP entrances and private elevators, and even for shopping, he’d send Aaron or someone else. He’d never been in the middle of a bustling crowd like this.

Noticing his discomfort, I joked in a low voice, “Wanna stand closer to me? I’ll hide that gorgeous face of yours from all those peeping eyes.”

He laughed and quipped, “I’m not that full of myself.”

Up on the top floor was a spacious handicrafts store that specialized in Moonlit Stone jewelry and knick-. knacks. I’d pre-booked a private workspace. The shopkeeper personally showed us in and helped us pick out the jewelry we’d make: a pair of simple cufflinks to hold small Moonlit Stone pieces.

Leonardo looked a bit taken aback at the idea of making jewelry by hand. “You want to make this?”

“Sure do.” I nodded, locking eyes with him. “For your birthday, you deserve a special, heartfelt gift. It’s all

about the little rituals.”

Leonardo said softly, his voice laced with his trademark quiet concern, “I’ve never bothered with birthdays or all that ceremonial stuff. Having you by my side today is more than enough.”

“Well, you never celebrated before, but you will from now on,” I said as I got to work, carefully working on the uncut Moonlit Stone following the holographic guide. “I’ll be with you every birthday from now on. ‘Cause today’s not just your birthday; it’s our bonding anniversary. This gift is for both of us, and I’ll treasure it always.”

So engrossed was I in the task that I didn’t notice Leonardo’s gaze growing more and more intense, like a deep, churning ocean.

“Natalie,” he murmured.

“Hm?” I turned around reflexively.

Suddenly, a warm kiss landed on my lips. I froze, about to pull back, but he held me.in place. His husky voice, hot against my ear, sent shivers down my spine.

“What am I gonna do?” Leonardo almost breathed, his voice dripping with helpless adoration. “I think I’m even more into you than I thought.”

My heart leaped into my throat, and my blood started racing. “Leonardo…” I gulped, feeling his overpowering presence. It was so different from his usual aloof self, making me both flustered and drawn to him, like being zapped by an unseen bolt of electricity.

Just in the nick of time, the workshop owner knocked and entered with the polishing tools, breaking the thick, romantic air in the room. Hastily, I gently pushed Leonardo away and faced the shopkeeper, my cheeks aflame.
