Chapter 171 Old Debts of Gratitude
Natalie’s POV:

The hospital’s harsh lights hit us. Medical staff quickly moved Victoria onto a gurney and rushed her towards the operating room. Lily and I were stopped at the doors. The air smelled of disinfectant and despair.
“Ms. Thompson will be fine, Natalie. You don’t need to worry too much,” Lily tried to comfort me, her voice still shaky from the shock.
I stayed silent. I wasn’t just worried about Victoria surviving. I was more concerned about the intricate web of conspiracy behind this. Samuel was like a hound in the shadows, and Penelope was a venomous snake lurking even deeper. They had joined forces, aiming their fangs at me.
Before I could sort through my thoughts, the Thompson family arrived. It was Victoria’s mother, Freya Thompson, and Victoria’s uncle, Hunter Thompson. Their pheromones radiated anxiety and anger, like a wolf pack whose territory had been violated.
Both looked deeply worried. When Freya asked me what happened, tears welled in her eyes. The dignity of a high-ranking werewolf matriarch faded, replaced by a mother’s raw vulnerability. She said in despair, “Victoria has been delicate since she was a child. She can’t handle any pain. This is just awful!”
Hunter tried to comfort Freya, his face also filled with concern.
The wait was long and agonizing. Finally, the operating room doors opened. A doctor came out and told us Victoria was out of danger. The wound on her wrist was deep, but it luckily missed the major nerves. She needed to stay in the hospital for observation and recovery.
I breathed a sigh of relief. At least the worst-case scenario was avoided.
After thanking the doctor, we saw Victoria being wheeled into a standard private room. Freya followed beside the bed, her eyes tearful again.
“Honey, why were you so reckless? He was a criminal! Thank goodness it wasn’t more serious. You must never take a risk like that again,” she said.
Hunter comforted her while giving me a meaningful look, his eyes sharp. “Ms. Anderson, you shouldn’t blame yourself too much. Victoria has always had a kind heart. She’d rather get hurt herself than see someone else in trouble.”
I understood the subtext. Victoria got hurt saving me, and I was now burdened with this “debt.” I met his gaze, my voice clear and steady. Yes, it’s only thanks to Ms. Thompson’s bravery that I’m unharmed. I will take full responsibility for all her medical expenses and any

subsequent rehabilitation care.”

“That’s not what I meant. The Thompson family doesn’t lack for these.” Hunter seemed somewhat deflated, as if my directness made it harder for him to apply further pressure.
Just then, a powerful, familiar Alpha aura approached. Leonardo had arrived. Aaron and two other werewolf guards followed closely behind him.
He strode forward fast, the hem of his black coa stirring a cold breeze, his tie loose and brows furrowed with unrelenting worry. His gaze swept past everyone else, locking onto me immediately. Only after scanning my entire body to confirm I was unharmed did the terrifying pressure he exerted ease slightly.
“Leonardo,” Hunter said.
Leonardo ignored him and walked straight to me. He pulled me close against him and asked, “Are you okay?” His voice was hoarse, carrying a race of perceptible fear. His hand gripped my waist tightly, as if I might vanish if he let go.
“I’m fine. It’s Ms. Thompson who was hurt,” I whispered, reminding him. I glanced around, signaling he should be mindful of the setting. The Thompson family was here, after all. His excessive focus on me would only add fuel to the fire.
Leonardo’s POV:
I was supposed to be busy late tonight. I knew Natalie was attending a drinks party, so I planned to find her after finishing my work. Then I suddenly got her call.
I had Aaron drive here at high speed. Even though Natalie told me on the phone she was okay, my heart was in my throat the whole way.
Freya’s POV:
Watching Leonardo’s actions after he entered, I couldn’t help but speak up. My voice was tearful and dissatisfied. “Leon, Victoria got hurt protecting Ms. Anderson. How can you come in and not even first ask about her?
“In business, the Thompson family dares not offend the Sanchez family. But privately, by all reason, you still owe our family a debt.”
When Leonardo was a child, he suffered quite a bit. It was Victoria who sought out the elders in his family to protect him.
Once, Leonardo had a high fever for days that wouldn’t break. He had a full-body allergic infection, and it was critical. Victoria found him in time and took him to the hospital for
treatment.
