Leonardo didn’t move-he only tightened his arm around me. Turning to Freya, his voice was calm yet steely with resolve. “Victoria, thank you for today.” He deliberately emphasized the word “today.” Then, keeping his arm around me, he walked to the hospital bed.
Victoria lay weakly against the pillows, her wrist thickly bandaged, her face pale. Her soft Omega pheromones were at their strongest. When she saw Leonardo, a faint light flickered in her eyes. But it quickly died when she saw how closely he held me and was replaced by a broken, pitiable look.
“Don’t mention it.” Her voice was a faint whisper. “Ms. Anderson is my business partner. How could I just watch her get hurt?” Yet, her gaze remained fixed on Leonardo’s face.
Freya seemed to want to say more, but she held back. Hunter’s expression became more gloomy.
“We will both remember this kindness.” Leonardo’s voice was low and husky, again linking me with him and drawing a clear line with Victoria. “Focus on getting better. If you need anything, you can ask Natalie or me.”
Victoria’s body trembled almost imperceptibly. I saw the shock and despair deep in her eyes.
“Leonardo.” She bit her pale lower lip, her breath weak. “Can I speak with you alone just for a moment?”
She then looked at me, her eyes pleading almost pathetically. “Ms. Anderson, just for a little while, please?”
My instinct was to step back and give them space. However, the arm around my waist tightened. Leonardo held me firmly in place, refusing the request.
“It’s alright,” I whispered to him, trying to convey my trust with my eyes.
“Leon, Victoria has always been close to you since childhood. For old times’ sake, can’t you grant her this small request?” Freya finally spoke up, her voice choked with emotion.
Hunter also stepped forward, his brow furrowed. “Leonardo, Victoria is stubborn. You know perfectly well who she got hurt for today. Is your conscience completely unmoved?”
Leonardo’s POV:
The Thompson elders’ words felt heavy. I had always remembered their past kindness to me and my friendship with Victoria. I never dared to forget. But that didn’t mean I had to repay

I could feel Natalie beside me. Her pheromones were steady and firm, showing her complete trust in me. That gave me more strength than any words.
I listened quietly to Hunter’s accusatory words, my expression unchanged. My arm around Natalie’s waist was a symbol of our united front. It would not be moved.
“Mrs. Thompson, Mr. Thompson,” I said, my voice gentle but cold and hard. “The care the Thompson family and Victoria showed me in the past is something I have always remembered. If an opportunity for repayment arises, I will not refuse.”
Then, my tone shifted, becoming clear and final “But this repayment should not, and will not, be based on a personal relationship between Victoria and me. That would only lead to more misunderstandings and trouble.”
I said the word “trouble” very softly, but it was enough to make Victoria’s face turn even paler. Freya and Hunter were left speechless, their faces pale.
“Victoria, anything you have to say, you can say here,” I said, looking at the seemingly fragile Omega on the bed. I had seen through her games long ago. I turned slightly and signaled to Aaron behind me, then added, “Natalie is my mate. I have no secrets from her. If you feel it’s inconvenient, Aaron can handle any needs you have.”
Victoria’s POV:
His cruel words felt like a public humiliation. Tears pooled in my eyes, and my whole body trembled uncontrollably. I risked my life, but I couldn’t even earn a few minutes alone with him.
I forced back a sob, showing a smile uglier than cry. “Leonardo, you don’t need to guard against me like I’m an enemy. I just wanted to tell you. It’s over. It’s all over. From today on, we’re just ordinary friends. I don’t want you treating me differently every time we meet, like I’m some kind of monster.”
My mother hugged my shoulders, her heart aching for me. My uncle turned away, his face grim.
Leonardo’s POV:
“You’re overthinking it,” I said firmly. My gaze swept over the tear tracks on her face. I wasn’t completely unmoved, but that flicker of pity was quickly suppressed by reason. Giving her hope would be the true cruelty.
Natalie said at the right moment, her voice gentle yet firm, instantly defusing the tense atmosphere, “Ms. Thompson, there’s no need to worry. Leonardo values loyalty but also knows his limits. He won’t treat you differently because of the past. I will arrange the best
