“No matter what happens in the future, I’ll face with you. Just like you said, you don’t have to put on a brave front for me either.” She leaned her head on my shoulder, her voice gentle, transferring her warmth to me.
I gathered myself and warned her not to visit Victoria for now. With tensions so high, I worried the Thompson family might blame her I was even more afraid she’d get caught in a media storm and get hurt.
Natalie nodded and said, “I understand. My showing up now isn’t appropriate. It might upset Victoria further. I’ll have my assistant send our regards.” She was always so level-headed, able to handle these situations.
I knew she could manage it. But looking at her, the urge to shield her and to protect her from all storms remained overpowering. I had to ensure Natalie’s safety, absolutely and completely.
Samuel’s POV:
At noon, I knocked on Victoria’s hospital room door, carrying a carefully selected, high-end bouquet. She lay on her side, staring blankly out the window, utterly lifeless.
I heard that in the early morning, while her family was asleep, she had used a fruit knife to reopen the wound on her wrist. She bled all over the bed and was only saved because a nurse making rounds found her.
After the scare, Freya couldn’t take it anymore herself. She arranged for a team of nurses and bodyguards to watch Victoria 24/7 before finally going home to rest.
“Why are you so desperate?” I placed the bouquet among the mountain of other gifts, my tone carrying just the right amount of pity. “The game is just beginning. Can’t you handle it already?” Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the expensive supplements sent by Natalie and Leonardo. They were very pricey.
“Even like this, he didn’t come to see you,” I murmured, genuinely a bit surprised. Leonardo was truly a top Alpha capable of leading Silver-Maned Pack. His heart was hard enough and ruthless enough. This decisiveness actually made me admire him a little.
Victoria didn’t respond. She didn’t even move her eyes.
“Ms. Thompson, do you know when a war is truly lost?” Since she stayed silent, I continued on my own, “A war is only lost when one side gives up. As long as the war continues, no one has lost.”

My words seemed to reach her. She turned her head slightly and looked at me.

I casually picked up a small cake from the table, took a bite, and then offered her another piece. “Eat something. Your health is your greatest asset. If you collapse first, the war is over.”
She didn’t take it. I finished the rest of the cake in a few bites, then brushed my hands and stood up.
I said, “You know best what Leonardo likes about Natalie and what he liked about you. Leonardo not visiting you this time doesn’t mean he’s completely unaffected.”
I saw the expression I wanted on her face, which mixed with resentment and hope. Objecti achieved, I offered a few polite pleasantries and left.
According to my informant, after I left, Victoria finally reached out, picked up the cake fro the table, and began eating mechanically.
Manipulating people-especially Omegas and Betas blinded by emotion-was effortless. She had been on a hunger strike all day. Her family and doctors were helpless and forced to give her IV nutrients. No one knew a few words from me would “fix” her.
It was good that the useful pawn was back on the board.
Victoria was discharged from the hospital faster than expected.
Right after, she posted an update on her personal page, assuring her fans and followers she was okay. Many people urged her to return to the public eye.
The public discussion, which had begun to die down, exploded again. This time, Victoria didn’t retreat. She went live, announcing she was restarting her career. She was not returning to the flashy entertainment industry but going back to journalism, which was her specialty. She would focus on charitable interviews.
The Thompson family already had deep partnerships with many werewolf charity foundations. Once the news broke, numerous charity projects extended invitations. Victoria gained hundreds of thousands of followers overnight. Her image transformed from a pitiful, lovelorn Omega to that of an independent, career-focused woman.
