The doctor’s words sent a wave of guilt crashing over me.
This was my fault.

My nails had already turned into half-wolf claws digging deep into my palms. Blood trickled down between my fingers and dripped onto the tile floor, but I felt no pain-nothing compared to the tearing inside my chest.
If I hadn’t been so indecisive, my father would never have ended up like this.
It was all because of Natalie, a low-ranking Beta I thought I could control, a half-breed werewolf I treated as a pawn to hide the truth.
How dare she betray me like this? How dare she rample all over what I offered her?
Grief, shame, and rage washed over me, threatening to overwhelm me.
My phone kept vibrating. Name after name flashed across the screen, including family members, business partners, and so-called friends. They were all laughing at me, weren’t they? In werewolf society, an Alpha family betrayed by a half-breed was big entertainment for the upper crust.
The scandal, the Richardson Group changing hands, my father’s critical condition… my reputation was in tatters.
In the werewolf business circles of Maritime City, our family had become a total laughingstock.
I leaned weakly against the wall and slid down to the floor, burying my hands in my hair. A sharp tingling at the roots warned me-my wolf form was fighting to break free. A low growl burned in my throat.
“Landon!” Aaliyah’s voice cut through. I lifted my dazed eyes and saw her walking quickly toward me, a bag in hand.
Aaliyah’s POV:
Seeing Landon sitting there outside the hospital room, broken and lost, made my heart ache.
I knew everything. As furious as the rest of the Richardson family was, as Landon’s mate, I had to hold things together for Landon and our home. We couldn’t afford to fall apart now.

Louisa was too old to stay in the hospital for long. Once Benjamin was stabilized, Grace took Louisa home. That left me here with Landon to look after Benjamin.
I took a deep breath. Thinking about what Natalie had done to the family and to Landon made my blood boil. But beneath the anger, another darker feeling quietly coiled inside me.
Finally, I didn’t have to hide in the shadows anymore-no more pretending to be just his “mentor,” no more watching my own pup call someone else “Mommy.”
Yes, the comments online were brutal. My social media had been torn apart. Former students who once admired me now sent tentative or outright hateful messages. Several upper-crust werewolf connections I’d spent years building had cut ties completely.
For an Omega in werewolf society, reputation was everything. Being labeled a “homewrecker” and accused of hiding a bond and of using a student, it was social death.
But I didn’t care.
At least now Landon was completely mine. That low-born half-breed Natalie had severed his last shred of hope in the cruelest way possible. The way he looked at her now held nothing but hate.
That was enough.
I helped him to his feet, feeling the chaos and fragility in his Alpha energy. Even someone as strong as Landon could break. And I would be the one to hold him together.
That was my duty as his Luna-and my victory.
“Nathan’s been restless all day,” I said softly, deliberately bringing up our pup. “He must sense the pack’s instability. He’s always been a sensitive child.”
It took Landon a moment to look at me. “Go home and be with him,” he said, his voice worn thin. “I’ll stay with my father.”
“No.” I shook my head firmly and wrapped my arms around his waist. “We’re in this together, Landon. No matter what anyone says, we’re bonded mates before the Moon Goddess. I’ll face all of this with you.” Landon didn’t respond, but a deep sense of satisfaction warmed me.
I’d waited so many years for this. From when I was still his mentor, from our first reckless bond under a full moon, from the moment I learned I was carrying a pure-blooded pup-I’d been waiting.
I’d been waiting for every obstacle around him to be cleared away and waiting for his eyes to see only me.
Natalie had done what I couldn’t-she made him hate her.
