“Samuel, you said it yourself-no one is innocent.” I remembered clearly how he’d judged Nova’s death without a shred of guilt, as if commenting on a stranger’s death. But that life was one he had destroyed.
I asked, “If Nova wasn’t innocent because she trapped herself in her feelings, then are you innocent for taking those feelings away?”
Seeing my rising emotion, Samuel’s voice dropped low. “There were no real feelings between
us.”
“Of course not. How could you have feelings? Feelings are for fools like us at the bottom. Believing in love was her mistake, right? But tell me… What gives you the right to play with someone else’s heart?” My voice shook, words rushing out faster, the anger and grief I’d held back for so long finally breaking through.
“Lily, I told you-I didn’t play with her. We weren’t like that…” he tried to cut in.
“Right! You weren’t. It was nothing!” I snapped, cutting him off. I didn’t want to hear any more of Samuel’s excuses. After spending time with him, I finally understood why a man like him would be interested in someone like me.
It fed his sense of superiority. If it satisfied his hollow heart, if he could gain admiration from others, Samuel wouldn’t spare a few small acts of kindness.
A tiny act of charity from him, in exchange for someone’s genuine heart-what a profitable deal!
Samuel’s POV:
Facing Lily’s rapid-fire accusations, I felt utterly drained. I laughed again.
The rest didn’t bother me-I’d never claimed to be a good person. I didn’t care how others saw me. Besides, I always thought I was cold-hearted enough that others’ low opinions wouldn’t matter. But Lily’s words actually stung.
About Nova, I was really innocent. But even if I tried to explain now, Lily would just think I was shifting blame.
She said, “Do you have any idea she was once my light? She didn’t have your pack background, but she had dreams. She wanted to live a good life!”
“Fine, I have more money and a better background than you. Does that mean I deserve to die?”

“Having money isn’t a crime. It’s that you’ll do anything for profit and pleasure, even hurt others. How can someone as cold-blooded as you be called human? Don’t you deserve to die?” Lily shot back without backing down.
If we were competing for the most hurtful words, Lily had already won. My heart had been empty and numb for years. The pain stopped back when I was a kid. But those few words of hers managed to bring out the last stinging traces of it from deep within me.
I took a deep breath and stood up. I let out a few nervous laughs, nodded, and pointed at Lily, my fingertip trembling slightly.
But this time, no words came out. No vicious warnings, no dark threats—I couldn’t utter any of it.
Lily cursed me and wished me dead.
Those words got under my skin, leaving me aching all over.
Rarely did someone’s words carry such bite.
Finally, I turned and went into the bedroom to change. Without a word or another glance at Lily, I walked out of her apartment.
Lily’s POV:
I stood where I was. A loud bang echoed-the door slamming shut. He was gone.
It took a long time for my heart to calm down and return to my chest, for my tense body to slowly relax.
I’d thought Samuel might actually do something to me, even hurt me, which was why I’d installed hidden cameras at home.
Had Samuel figured that out and forced himself to swallow his rage?
Either way, today we’d torn off the mask. He would definitely retaliate later.
And the data I stole from his phone… Samuel wouldn’t let that go.
I knew the dangerous situation I’d gotten myself into had finally spiraled out of control.
Natalie’s POV:
I hadn’t expected a message from Lily in the middle of the night. Leonardo was still asleep. Not wanting to disturb him, I quietly got up and slipped into the next room to call her back.

After wrapping up our visit to the Ancient Wolf Sanctum, we should have returned to Maritime City right away. But Leonardo’s body clearly couldn’t handle days of travel. He’d caught a chill and started running a fever yesterday. The doctor who came said it was inflammation flaring up from old injuries and advised more rest.
I’d heard about a hot spring near the Ancient Wolf Sanctum, famous for warding off the cold. The doctor agreed that the mineral baths could help soothe both his body and mind. So we changed our plans, deciding to stay in Kaelis City a couple more days.
The hot springs did help Leonardo’s recovery a lot. Soaking together in the warm water, we felt warm to the core. I’d actually considered staying longer, maybe until next week, and flying directly to Mervia from here.
But then Lily told me about what was happening with the Scott Group.
