Outwardly, I stayed calm, but my good mood was completely gone. Penelope had a real talent for getting under my skin. Knowing full well I’d already dealt with the Thorn Pack, now she was rolling out the red carpet for Aaliyah?
I had no intention of hiding this from Leonardo. After finishing the call with Lily, I went back to the bedroom and told him everything.
Gallop Energy was a potential rival to the Sanchez Group. Hearing this, Leonardo’s expression darkened instantly. He immediately wanted to book the earliest flight back to Maritime City for
tomorrow.
But I stopped him.
Leonardo had one last scheduled therapy session tomorrow morning, part of the recovery program I’d arranged for him. His condition had clearly improved over these last few days, and I insisted he complete the final session.
Besides, even if we went back, there was no guarantee we could stop Gallop Energy’s deal with the Scott Group.
Leonardo finally gave in and agreed to change our tickets for after his session. Even though he wasn’t physically at the Sanchez Group, he’d already ordered a full investigation into Gallop Energy’s projects in Maritime City and told his people to monitor their every move.
No matter how strong Gallop Energy’s background was, it couldn’t compare to the financial might of the Silver-Maned Pack. If Leonardo were willing to commit resources, making Gallop Energy take a quiet loss wouldn’t be difficult.
I knew Leonardo wouldn’t stand for anyone mistreating me, not even from within Moon- Shadowed Pack. He was willing to break some of Ryan’s rules for me. I understood his feelings, but I didn’t want to escalate things.
If the cooperation between Gallop Energy and the Scott Group was legitimate, then as the Scott Group’s heir, I had no grounds to oppose it. Doing so would mean I wasn’t fit to lead.
But if Aaliyah was Gallop Energy’s representative, that changed everything. In a way, Penelope had handed me a chance to strike back.
“Alright, I understand,” I said to Lily over the phone, my mind already working through a plan.
No wonder Aaliyah could be Gallop Energy’s representative. Landon had given her my past research data. How low could they sink? And they thought they could hide it from me?

Thinking of the things Landon had once whispered to me-his so-called confessions—a wave of intense nausea rose in my throat. Usually, it was just a psychological reaction, but this time I almost actually threw up.
“Natalie, are you okay?” Lily asked, hearing something off in my voice.
“I’m fine. More importantly, you went through Samuel’s phone. He didn’t give you trouble, did he?” I never wanted Lily to take such risks. If I’d known she would, I wouldn’t have told her so much.
But if Samuel pursued this, I’d decided—I’d take full responsibility. I wouldn’t let Lily get hurt.
“No…” Lily paused, then added, “He hasn’t found out yet.
“Natalie, the signing with Gallop Energy is tomorrow morning. Should we do something?”
“No, you’ve done more than enough. Leave the rest to me.” My stomach was churning badly. I didn’t say much more and ended the call quickly.
“Natalie?” Suddenly, there was a sound outside the bathroom door. Leonardo was awake. He knocked, his voice tinged with concern.
I hadn’t even turned on the faucet, afraid of waking him. But he never slept well when I wasn’t beside him.
Before I could answer, the door opened quickly. His worried gaze met my slightly startled
eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing me slightly hunched over as if in discomfort, he grew tense instantly. He took my arm and, as he often did, naturally felt my forehead.
I said, “Leonardo, why aren’t you asleep? I just got up to use the bathroom. It’s nothing.”
“Lying to me again,” he said, frowning, his voice low as he saw right through me. “You were on the phone for a while. Is it about the Scott Group again?”
I knew I couldn’t hide it from him and nodded honestly. “But we don’t need to worry. It’ll be resolved soon.”
“Really?” Hearing that, his expression softened. He gently nuzzled my cheek, waiting for me to continue.
I took his hand and led him back to bed, briefly explaining the situation and my plan.
We didn’t need Leonardo to take on Gallop Energy, and the Scott Group didn’t need to cancel the deal. To deal with Aaliyah, I’d just turn her own weapon against her.

But as I held his hand, I noticed something was off. Why was his body so cold at night lately?
Leonardo seemed to sense my thoughts. He withdrew his hand and pulled me into his arms. “It’s cold at night. The bed doesn’t feel warm without you.”
“Honestly, you’ve caught a chill, and you’re still not dressing warmly enough. You were standing outside for a while just now, weren’t you?” I pinched his cheek, scolding him gently.
The temperature had dropped recently, and his pajamas were thin. He’d probably been waiting outside the bathroom door, not wanting to disturb me. He was always like this-thinking of others, while he was the one who needed looking after the most.
“It’s fine.” Hearing my concern, that endless tenderness returned to his face. He gently brushed his finger over my eyebrow, as if he could never get enough of looking at me. “Natalie, you seemed really uncomfortable earlier. Are you sure you’re okay?”
