Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 143

Catheleen was sitting right next to Camilla, but she couldn’t hear what was happening on the other end of the phone. Judging by Camilla’s face, though, she had to ask, “What happened?”

Camilla ended the call, feeling like something heavy was pressing down on her chest. She let out a deep breath before finally speaking. “Probably just a wrong number. Made no sense at all.”

“Did they say something nasty?” Catheleen asked, looking concerned. “Don’t let it get to you. The world’s full of weirdos. Plenty of them are just nuts.”

“Yeah… I’ll just ignore it.”

But before Camilla could even finish her sentence, her phone started buzzing again. It was the same number calling.

She immediately hit decline, then blocked the number.

“If he dares call again, we’re calling the cops,” Catheleen said. “Don’t give him an inch.”

“It’s fine. I blocked it,” Camilla replied. “Good,” Camilla said, forcing steadiness. “Then it’s done.”

“Exactly. Don’t let idiots like that ruin your mood.” Catheleen grinned. “Let’s talk about something better. When you get Ladd’s payment, what are you going to buy yourself?”

Camilla couldn’t help but smile. “Actually, I was planning to get gifts for you and Latonia too. Catheleen, is there anything you want? Do you know what Latonia likes?”

“You don’t need to get me anything,” Catheleen insisted. “But if you want to make Latonia happy, get her a stuffed animal. You’d never guess just by looking at her, right? She looks so tough, but deep down she’s a total softie.”

“Really? I didn’t expect that at all.” Camilla looked surprised. “Alright, I’ll buy her something cute. And you’re getting a gift, too. I already have some ideas.”

The two chatted the whole drive, and before long they reached the hotel.

They’d started their hot pot dinner before five, so it was barely past six now.

The hotel’s top floors were for guests, and the first three floors were all restaurants. Right now, the place was packed.

“You should come inside and wait in the lobby. It’s freezing in the car,” Camilla said. “I’ll be quick.”

“No worries.” Catheleen parked the car, taking her phone along. “Honestly, if I were home I’d just be scrolling anyway.”

They went into the lobby together. Camilla picked a spot for Catheleen to sit, gave her a few instructions, then headed for the elevators.

He looked to be in his twenties, dressed casually, pretty fresh-faced, but right now he was all anger.

He blocked Camilla’s way and demanded, “You’re Camilla?”

Camilla came to a standstill, thrown by how familiar his voice sounded.

“I’m Camilla.” She studied his face, certain she didn’t recognize him. “And you are?”

“I’m Ladd’s son.” Maddox Clark was glaring at her, his eyes sharp and cold.

He’d seen pictures of her from the PI, but seeing Camilla up close—she was stunning. With a face like that, it wasn’t a shock his dad had lost control. Honestly, if he were being honest with himself…

He shot her another hard look. “We need to talk.”

Camilla stared at him, genuinely surprised. “Ladd’s son? What could you possibly want to talk to me about?”

“I want to ask you…”
