Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 155

The elevator’s signal kept cutting out, but at least they reached their floor pretty quickly.

“Cammie, are you okay?” Latonia blurted out. “I just heard what happened… I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.”

Camilla tried to comfort her right away. “Latonia, why are you apologizing?”

“It was me who introduced you to Ladd. How could I have known…?” The anger in Latonia’s voice was obvious. “It just makes me so mad. How can someone be that shameless?”

“It’s fine, really,” Camilla assured her. “You didn’t know and no one could have predicted he’d do something like that. I’m okay, honestly. Catheleen’s right here. Ask her if you want.”

Catheleen jumped in quickly. “Yeah, Latonia, don’t stress. I’m with Cammie, she’s alright.”

After a few more calming words, Latonia finally ended the call.

She immediately dialed Lambert.

By then, Lambert had already pulled himself together. The driver had shown up, and Lambert was seated in the back of the car. Shadows played across his good-looking features, making it hard to read what he was feeling.

He picked up the phone, his voice cool and distant. “Did you call her?”

“I did,” Latonia answered quickly. “This was on me. For Cammie, it was such a nightmare out of nowhere.”

“Your intentions were good,” Lambert said. “But next time you’re planning something, just tell me first.”

“Everything I do, or just things that involve Cammie?” Latonia asked, teasing a little.

Lambert’s voice didn’t change at all. “What do you think?”

He didn’t even need to explain. It was already clear.

Latonia couldn’t help but laugh. “We’re family and yet I’m already getting left in the dust by Cammie?”

Lambert wasn’t having it. “That won’t be necessary. I’ll chase after her myself.”

Latonia snorted. “You say that like you’re some kind of expert. Listen, I’ve been in a few relationships myself. I am a woman, I know how women think.”

“I’ll let you know if I need tips,” Lambert said.

After hanging up, Lambert turned to the bodyguard in the front seat. “Look into why Daniel was at that hotel tonight.”

It had seemed like some random run-in, but real coincidences were rare. Daniel had shown up with Camilla’s parents and a bunch of her coworkers. If no one had stepped in to clear Camilla’s name, she would have been humiliated in public. That kind of scandal would just stick and follow her forever. It would spread fast, too, especially with so many witnesses. Soon enough, everyone she knew would have heard about it.

For any woman, a rumor like that was almost impossible to shake off.

As for Ladd, Lambert had no plans to let him off the hook. All for his own selfish reasons, Ladd had trashed someone’s reputation. Even if Camilla were a stranger, Lambert wouldn’t be able to let it slide. But Camilla wasn’t just anyone. She was the one person he couldn’t bear to see hurt.

When Lambert gave the order, his people snapped into action. They started pulling call logs and piecing together timelines. It didn’t take long before the whole story came together.
