Camilla couldn't bring herself to meet his intense gaze, choosing instead to stare intensely at the hardwood floor in total silence. From Lambert's vantage point, he had a perfect view of her delicate, elegant swan neck and the soft curve of her earlobe. Unable to resist, he reached down and pinched her earlobe gently between his fingers. It was incredibly soft, smooth, and warm. He loved the way it felt against his skin. Camilla jerked her head away, shooting him a quick, defensive glare. "What are you doing?" Her glare was a mix of overwhelming shyness and a hint of feigned outrage. Lambert crouched down, shifting from towering over her to looking up into her face. "I'm not going to try anything, so what are you so afraid of? Or is it that you don't trust my self-control? Though, as I recall, the last few times, it was you who..." "Stop!" Camilla cut him off instantly. "I'm not scared. I just think it's completely inappropriate for me to sleep in here." "What's inappropriate about it?" "We're a single man and woman sharing an apartment, and we aren't even together. Of course it's inappropriate!" "You didn't honestly think... I was planning on sharing this bed with you, did you?" Camilla looked at him in sheer surprise. Lambert was endlessly amused by her adorable, flushed expression. He reached up and tapped her nose lightly with his index finger, chuckling. "What goes on inside that head of yours all day? Do I look like that kind of guy? Or... were you actually looking forward to sharing a bed with me?" "As if!" Camilla vehemently denied the accusation. "That never even crossed my mind!" "Relax, you're taking this room," Lambert explained smoothly. "I'll be sleeping in the guest room next door." "But this is your personal space. You're used to sleeping here," Camilla argued. "I'm leaving tomorrow anyway. It's just one night; the guest room is perfectly fine for me." "The master suite is the largest and the most comfortable," Lambert stated firmly. "Since you're my guest, obviously you get the best accommodations." Camilla opened her mouth to argue further, but the doorbell suddenly chimed. Lambert stood up, running a heavy hand affectionately through her hair. "Be a good girl and wait here." Camilla felt like everything he did—every casual word, every fleeting touch—was a calculated move to seduce her. He probably wasn't even doing it on purpose, but her heart raced uncontrollably every single time. Lambert returned just two minutes later, holding a brand-new pair of plush pink women's slippers. He had already ripped off the packaging. Crouching right back down at her feet, his large hand encircled her ankle as he guided her foot into the soft material. He smoothly repeated the process with her other foot. "How do they feel?" Camilla stood up. They were a perfect fit. The soft, plush interior was incredibly comfortable and warm. "They're perfect." Lambert nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, get unpacked. You can hang your clothes in here..." He pulled open the doors to a separate section of the massive walk-in closet. It was entirely occupied by his tailored suits. A sea of charcoal and midnight black, all clearly bespoke and exuding astronomical wealth. Camilla felt like her simple, off-the-rack clothes weren't even worthy of sharing the same rack. When Lambert reached toward her duffel bag to help, Camilla practically leaped to stop him. "I'll unpack myself!" Her lingerie was in there, and she absolutely wasn't letting Lambert anywhere near it. Lambert didn't fight her on it. He simply straightened up. "Take your time. Just put your toiletries in the master bath. I'm going to start dinner. Come out whenever you're ready." Camilla gave a quick nod. Right before he stepped out of the room, he gave her hair another lingering pat. Camilla ground her teeth together, feeling like she was on the verge of a total emotional breakdown. Why on earth had she agreed to move into his apartment? How was she supposed to maintain any defense against a man as lethally charming as Lambert? She didn't bring much, so unpacking took practically no time at all. She hung up her two coats in the closet and lined up her simple skincare products on the sprawling marble vanity. Seeing her cheap drugstore items sitting right next to Lambert's ultra-luxurious men's cologne sent a bizarre, intimate thrill straight through her. It looked exactly as if they were actually living together, sharing a life. She intentionally dragged out the process, stalling for nearly half an hour. Finally, she built up the courage to leave the bedroom.
